Messalina: Devourer of Men

The book, Messalina: Devourer of Men by Zetta Brown begins with, ‘My name is Evadine Cavell and I am a sex goddess.

At least that’s what I keep telling myself.’

The two sentence opening tells us much about Eva and her insecurities. She’s a beautiful woman, intelligent; after all she is a professor at a private Denver college. But Eva let’s her size and race keep her from finding the love and acceptance she deserves.

Evadine is a passionate woman. A fact she feels she must hide from her colleagues. So she chooses to find release in dark theaters, fondling and being fondled by men with no names.

My feelings on her choice are she is excited and repelled at her actions.

Enter, Jared Delaney. He’s seen Eva in action more than once, and decides there is much more to her than her icy demeanor.

Attracted to him, Evadine breaks her own rules and the two of them begin a singeing sexual exploration. Yet a lifetime of doubts still holds Eva back, so she takes a bold step to become a fantasy woman who can do and be all she craves.

Unfortunately the decision brings some unwanted backlash in the form of blackmail.

This is one hot story. I’d loved seeing a lush woman get beyond the thin stereotypes and fully embrace her sexuality.

It’s a spicy romance, but along with the steamy scenes comes a true plot and characters that are real and not cardboard cutouts. Give it a read. You won’t be disappointed.

_*When life imitates art...*_

Eva Cavell is a woman with an embarrassing secret.

She is sexually frustrated and is convinced that her size and race intimidates men.

In an attempt to relieve her sexual tension, every Thursday Eva goes to a local movie theater and allows desperate strangers to fondle her in the dark. She allows no eye contact, no phone numbers—and definitely no names.

During one of her escapades, renowned artist, Jared Delaney, a smooth Southern gentleman with irresistible violet eyes, has Eva breaking her own rules. He has been watching Eva on her weekly visits and sees through her icy defence and straight through to the hot passion burning underneath.

_*...expect to be framed*_

Messing about in dark theaters isn’t a good pastime for Eva. She is a tenure-track instructor at a private Denver college that is currently embroiled in a sex scandal and she is the youngest child of a prominent black family.

To add to her turmoil, Neil Hollister, Eva’s classroom aide and former student, is a handsome, barely-legal frat brat whose interest in her is carnal rather than academic—and she’s tempted.

Despite desperate attempts to maintain control, Eva’s world is spiralling into chaos. As emotional pressures build inside her, an explosion is imminent. Will she ever be able to live her life how she wants and without shame?

The answer may lie with a woman who is bold and unashamed in her sexuality. Can Eva be more like her? What would happen if she even tried?
