A second chance with your first love? Only if it doesn’t involve another broken heart. Ten years ago Colleen O’Rourke and Lucas Campbell were inseparable….until Colleen learned that Lucas was hiding a secret that tore her life apart. Lucas is back in town - temporarily - for a family emergency and looking just as handsome as ever. Will it just be a history repeating itself, or can they both risk their hearts and make it last?
Colleen is a matchmaker who seems to be able to match up everyone except herself. Her family defines the word dysfunctional. She is warm and caring and really, truly loved Lucas.
Lucas has overcome so much family trouble to be a seemingly well-adjusted adult. I truly felt sorry for him and wanted to do some serious damage to his aunt for her behavior. He’s still in love with his high school sweetheart.
I’m a sucker for reunited love stories and I really like Kristan Higgins’ books. I liked this story, but it wasn’t my favorite of Ms. Higgins’ books by far. There seemed to be so many side tales that it detracted from the main story. The assorted characters ranged from mushy sweet to utterly despicable. READERS BEWARE- There are several extremely emotional scenes, especially toward the end of the story and I will admit that I did cry.
Is your first love worth a second chance…?
Colleen O'Rourke is in love with love…just not when it comes to herself. Most nights, she can be found behind the bar at the Manningsport, New York, tavern she owns with her twin brother, doling out romantic advice to the lovelorn, mixing martinis and staying more or less happily single. See, ten years ago, Lucas Campbell broke her heart…an experience Colleen doesn't want to have again, thanks. Since then, she's been happy with a fling here and there, some elite-level flirting and playing matchmaker to her friends.
But a family emergency has brought Lucas back to town, handsome as ever and still the only man who's ever been able to crack her defenses. Seems like maybe they've got some unfinished business waiting for them—but to find out, Colleen has to let her guard down, or risk losing a second chance with the only man she's ever loved.
