What happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay in Vegas. When Cara DeLuca, a snobby and perfectionist events planner extraordinaire, meets Shane Doyle, a handsome and charming Irish pastry chef, in Vegas it’s lust at first sight. After several (or a lot) of drinks, they decide that it made perfect sense to get married – at least until they sobered up the next day. Now, still married and working closer together than Cara would like, can Shane unwind the tightly wound Cara and show her that life’s more fun with cake?
Cara is very standoffish with her snobby and cold character. This is mainly to keep anyone from discovering that she struggles daily with controlling her anorexia and her compulsive perfectionistic goals. Shane is an up and coming pastry chef who has moved to Chicago to work with Jack Kilroy, superstar chef and Shane’s half-brother. In addition to working with Jack, Shane is hoping to get to know his half-brother, who has no idea that they’re related.
What’s not to love about Kate Meader’s Hot in the Kitchen series? There’s hot heroes who know their way around a kitchen, the women who love them and honest emotions all around. This is one of those novels that really show how well the two main characters fit with each other with how compatible and complementary Cara and Shane are with one another. They have completely different backgrounds yet are kindred spirits. I really enjoyed the emotional story that unfolds as Cara and Jack find their way through the ups and downs of their relationship as well as the emotional journey that Jack and Shane take to forge their brotherly bond. Kate Meader is a genius when it comes to playing on the reader’s emotions. I alternately laughed out loud choked back tears while reading this book. While there are plenty of steamy hot sensual scenes, there was also a lot of heart in this book.
Her sweetest mistake . . .
Cool as a Chicago winter, private events planner Cara DeLuca is a model of self-control . . . until she meets the one temptation she can't resist: Shane Doyle. The sexy, Irish pastry chef is too hot, too sure, too young, and after a crazy night in Vegas-her new husband. While at first Cara wants nothing more than a way out of her sham marriage to Shane, she soon finds that beneath his farm boy demeanor lies a man who can match her drive, both in and out of the bedroom. How can the wrong guy feel so deliciously right?
. . . Tastes so, so good
Shane has carefully structured his career and life around one goal: connecting with the family that doesn't know he exists. Marrying a woman with more issues than a magazine stand wasn't part of the plan, but melting Cara's icy exterior is so worth the detour. Now as the annulment date nears and long-buried secrets are revealed, Shane will have to fight for the one thing guaranteeing the perfect life he craves . . . the current Mrs. Shane Doyle.
