Awakening’s 2: Instinct left more to be desired. I did not read Jessica Freely’s first book in this series (Virgin), which left me a little confused during some parts of the second. I thought the concept was a good one, but I found myself losing interest rather quickly. There were parts throughout the novel that would catch my interest again, making it a slow read, but not enough to make me want to read this book another time. This was my first time reading a book with a main m/m character romance and it left me a little disappointed.
A point in favor of Freely’s novel is that the character conflict between the two main males, Joam and Blake, was believable, but I did not feel a connection with either characters. The story was a new take on shape shifters, so the idea was somewhat original, but it wasn’t enough to save this story.
