The Book Stops Here

A Bibliophile Mystery, #8

Kate Carlisle pulled me into another terrific cozy mystery but this time it’s one in her “Bibliophile Mystery” series. I have only read one other book in this series. It was the first one, “Homicide in Hardcover,” and this is book nine in the series so I had some catching up to do in this one. However, if you are new reader to the series you will not have a problem with reading this book because the author makes it easy to understand the storyline.

The heroine in this series is Brooklyn who is a rare book expert and makes her living by restoring books to their original condition for their owners. She stumbles onto dead bodies from time to time and then tries to figure out who killed them. Brooklyn now has a live-in boyfriend name Derek who is a security expert and owns his own company. There is no dreaded love triangle romance still going on in this one; if there ever was one going on in the series, I do not know. Brooklyn and Derek have a new female kitten which they have not named yet and they are testing out names on the kitten. This leads to some funny dialogue that had me laughing out loud.

While reading this story I did not want to put it down because I was enjoyed it so much and I was sad when it came to an end. Kate Carlisle pulled me into her world with such vividly drawn characters and a realistic background world that stuck in my mind days after I put the book down. I did not notice any errors that slowed down my reading of it, such as typos or grammar errors.

Brooklyn has done it again…she found another dead body! The body belongs to a woman whose book she appraised for one of the customers who came to a television show to have their antiques appraised by experts.

Book Blurb for The Book Stops Here

You never know what treasures can be found in someone’s attic. Unfortunately for bookbinder Brooklyn Wainwright, some of them are worth killing for in the latest in the New York Times bestselling Bibliophile Mystery series.

Brooklyn is thrilled to be appearing on the hit TV show This Old Attic as a rare-book expert and appraiser. Her first subject is a valuable first-edition copy of the children’s classic The Secret Garden.

After the episode airs, a man storms onto the set claiming that the owner of the book, a flower seller named Vera, found the book at his garage sale, and he wants it back—or else. Afterward, Randolph Rayburn, the show’s host, confides in Brooklyn that he’s terrified by the man’s threats and fears that he is being stalked.

When several violent incidents occur on the set, Brooklyn and her security expert boyfriend, Derek, are shaken. But Brooklyn’s discovery of Vera’s corpse in her flower shop convinces her she has to find the killer—before her chance at prime time and her life are canceled…permanently.
