I got hooked on this story when I read the back blurb and realized it was about a perfume store! I have always wanted to know more information on how perfume is made and used in items. The heroine of this story, Elliana (Ellie), has her own “Enchanted Garden” where she get her flowers that she uses to make custom-made perfume for her clients. Bailey Cattrell describes Ellie’s garden with very descriptive words including small Elvin doors, beautiful mosaic retaining walls, and blue iridescent butterflies that follow Nabby, the cat, around until he lies down on a wall to go to sleep.
Most of the characters in this book are flawed with human problems that made them more human, including Ellie who is afraid to go back to the restaurant that she built with her ex-husband who still works there with his new girlfriend. In addition, Ellie is also afraid to go on dates with men since her ex-husband cheated on her while they were married. However, her friend’s brother is back in town waiting for a grant proposal to go through so Ellie might hook-up with Ritter.
The pacing of this story pacing is - off. It starts off slowly in the beginning, picks up some speed when the murder happens in the book, but it went back to being slow again a few paragraphs later. Because the pacing was so off I had to stop reading it and put it down for a few days then every so often I picked it back up, until a few days later I finished it.
Can Ellie figure out who killed her ex-husband’s girlfriend before they throw her into jail for the murder?
Special Notes: Typo: page 108, line 29…first word “scritch” should be “scratch”.
