Carousel

(Publishers Blurb) “If it can’t be photographed, it doesn’t exist. That mantra is shattered when Jaci falls in love with a man who doesn’t exist in her time, all because she photographed a carousel horse that doesn’t exist in his.  Jaci Eastman is inadvertently drawn through time to 1874 when she photographs a restored Dentzel carousel. She lands at Wildwood horse farm and must rely on the good graces of its owner, Nicholas Westbrooke.

Nicholas is a man who likes routine, but Jaci unwittingly shatters his illusions about women, passion and love. She tells stories of flying machines and teaches science to his niece. She’s outrageous in her dress, manners and language, and yet he finds her irresistible.

Jaci has always believed only reality can be photographed. But then she falls in love with Nicholas. When he begins carving the exact horse that transported her through time, will she use it to return to the present, or stay and create a new reality?”

In this story by Ms. Baldwin we see the development of the question “What are you willing to give up for true happiness and love?” Jaci and Nick must both answer this question. Along with “How hard are you willing to work to get what you really want?”

Jaci has closed herself off for so long that it takes her a while to realize what she really wants and what she’s willing to do and give up to get it. Nick never really thought about what he really wanted, just what he must do. What responsibilities he must see to. It’s a tangled web for both of them. But once they figure it out, then they can both find what they never knew they were looking for.

For all you fans of historical and time travel romances this will be right up your alley. The characters are wonderfully witty and down to earth with quirks that will keep you laughing as well as identifying with them. And the plot moves so well you’ll be at the end before you realize you’ve read the whole thing. And you might even find yourself asking “Would I be able to do that?” The answer might surprise you.
