Darkness on the Plains: The Beginning

When a Native American myth collides with the world of vampires, the fate of an entire tribe could hang in the balance...

A storm brews in the Indian Territory. Nightfall is coming, and something lurks in the darkness that is as beautiful as it is terrifying. There is a new hunter on the plains and his prey is... human.

Reunited with his people, Kanati has the love of the most beautiful woman he ever met, and is leading the life he always dreamed of, but a chance encounter with a charismatic vampire will launch Kanati down a path wrought with peril and surprises. Will Kanati be able to preserve the life he loves?

Or will he be a victim of the Darkness on the Plains?

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I started reading the first book in this series, other than I was absolutely drawn in by the words Ms. Malvagio began to paint. It is categorized as a paranormal romance and spicy, but I have to say the Darkness on the Plains: The Beginning is like no other book I have read. It’s dark, but romantic and sexy. It spans several genres.

There are two stories in this book, one follows Kanati of the Talwa who escapes from an Indian School to return to his people on the plains. The other follows the vampire, Niccolo known amongst his kind as a butcher, but the author doesn’t really go into his past—intriguing me all the more. Niccolo acts as a guardian angel, watching over Kanati and saving his life on several occasions, until finally their stories merge together at the end.

The sex scenes were very graphic and hot. Some of the language Kanati used was a bit modern for a historical, but I was swept away in the story and I didn’t really notice. The only thing which bugged me about the story was it ended on a cliff hanger, and that is the only complaint which I have—mainly because I wanted more.

So if you want a dark, sexy, spicy historical paranormal romance give Darkness on the Plains: The Beginning a try. I’ll be definitely watching for more of Ms. Malvagio’s work.
