Fatal Shadows

The Adrien English Mysteries, #1

In 'Fatal Shadows', when bookshop owner Adrian English's employee and friend is found murdered in an alley he finds himself both the chief suspect and the next intended victim. As if this wasn't enough to cope with, he also finds himself falling for one of the police detectives investigating the case, handsome and hopelessly closeted Jake Riordan.

In 'A Dangerous Thing', fleeing from the disastrous non-relationship with Jake, Adrian retreats to his ranch where he stumbles across a dead body. Soon he's being shot at, and finding rattlesnakes in the mail. At least several close brushes with death are enough to convince Jake that maybe he does love Adrian after all, but after they get back to the city, who knows how long that will last?

These were two of the best books I think I've ever read. Fast-paced, entertaining, beautifully written, genuinely scary in parts, witty, funny and with wonderfully complex mystery plots which left me wanting to turn the page regardless of the romance. But the romance was gorgeous! You can feel the chemistry between sharp-witted but vulnerable Adrien and 'straight as a stick figure' Jake, and their difficulties and challenges in relating to one another make their moments of tenderness so much more touching.

If the print books weren't so ridiculously expensive, I would certainly be buying these in paperback. But given that the paperbacks are so difficult to get hold of, the e-books are an absolute bargain. Rush out and get them today!

Book Blurb for Fatal Shadows

One sunny morning Los Angeles bookseller and aspiring mystery author Adrien English opens his front door to murder. His old high school buddy (and employee) has been found stabbed to death in a back alley following a loud and very public argument with Adrien the previous evening.

Naturally the cops want to ask Adrien a few questions; they are none too impressed with his answers, and when a few hours later someone breaks into Adrien's shop and ransacks it, the law is inclined to think Adrien is trying to divert suspicion from himself.

Adrien knows better. Adrien knows he is next on the killer's list.
