A Pirate's Primer

Genre: LGBT Fantasy Paranormal

Lieutenant Adam Chandler is a tormented man. Not only in constant pain from his badly broken legs, he is also at odds with his greedy, corrupt family, whose use of betrayal and dark magic to clear the seas of pirates clashes with Adam's sense of honor. When he meets Jaden Fox, the Captain of the legendary ghost ship, the Grey Lady, the pirate offers him an escape - come on board, teach the crew to write, and in return Jaden will teach Adam the ways of passion.

Adam thinks he has found eternal happiness, but when crewmembers begin disappearing he must face an ugly truth. Can he save his lover? And if so, can he save himself?

I have to admit I'm a sucker for stories set on board tall ships, and when they're ghostly ships with a glamorous pirate captain, that's all to the better. But I also loved Adam with his well drawn conflict and the combination of great strength of character with total naivety when it came to m/m love. Jaden too, who is teasing and funny over a core of strength is a lovely character. I also really enjoyed her writing style, which was elegant and accomplished, while being quite different from most other ebooks I've read. Her descriptions were a delight to read. The story was fairly simple, with a lot of time set aside for the sex lessons - which were also quirky and unusual, and all the better for it. But I'd actually love to see more of the world in which the Grey Lady sails - I was intrigued by the Chandlers and their magico-political rise to power, as well as all the legends of the sea. I can't help thinking it calls for a sequel.

Despised by his family for his lame legs, Adam Chandler has given up on happiness. When a chance encounter with a legendary pirate lands him aboard the Grey Lady, a ghost ship in the service of the sea goddess, he doesn't expect much. But the ship's captain, the handsome Jaden Fox, makes Adam a most intriguing offer: teach the pirates to read and write, and Jaden will teach Adam the ways of pleasure.

Adam is an eager student, finding Jaden's powerful caresses and playful passion give him reason to cherish his new life. Desire soon gives way to love, and Adam finally dares to believe he can be happy.

Then the first crewman disappears and it's a race against time to find the killer and save the rest of the crew. Is it another mythical creature, or will shadows from Adam's past separate the two lovers forever?
