The Killer Wore Leather

An S/M Mystery

Mr. Global Leather has been murdered, and everyone that has ever laid their eyes on him could be a main suspect. Cormac "Mack" Steel was a charismatic leatherman who easily made enemies with his equal parts arrogant, bigoted and out right cruel comments to anyone who he felt was beneath him- which is almost everyone he came in contact with, but did his comments go so far as to get him killed. Enter Detective Rebecca Feldblum, who has never heard of the annual Ms. and Mr. Global Leather contest, is genuinely surprised at the different types of personalities and kinks that are on full display at the weekend long event. As she carefully pieces together the final days of Mac's life she comes to understand a lot more about her victim and the world he chose to inhabit. Rebecca will discover more about the dark corners of the sexual underworld than she ever wanted to know, and more about her own personal life than she ever could have imagined.

The Killer Wore Leather is an amusing and leisurely paced murder mystery that will leave you in stitches and a more informed person about the ever popular BDSM scene. Laura with a mordant, yet teasing, sense of humor, introduces the reader to a large and lively cast of characters that have come together to produce the Global leather contest. Antonoiu was able to make each character relevant and necessary to the overall plot without making you feel overwhelmed when another character is added to the possible suspect list.

I spent a good chunk of my high school years watching reruns of Murder She Wrote and Law and Oder: SVU, so I easily guessed who the killer was, but I honestly was not even remotely upset with this. The well-drawn characters are what drew me in and kept me reading until the end. There are enough of the main and supporting characters that are finding their way around the lifestyle for the first time that you don't have to be an insider to enjoy the story, but if you are not new to this, you won't feel like you are being patronized. Laura Antoniou doesn’t overlook anybody’s contribution to making the contest a success. Not just the contestants and judges, but the overworked producers, the passionate volunteers and the bored mainstream journalists who are left to cover the events- all of them get a moment in the spotlight to share their distinctive slant on the BDSM world and Mack's death. I loved this book and look forward to reading more from Antoniou in the future.

Mr. Global Leather has been murdered!

In the Grand Sterling Hotel of Midtown Manhattan, home of the huge annual leather/BDSM/fetish ball and contest, Mr. & Ms. Global Leather, last year's male winner lies dead on the floor of his suite, wearing only very frilly, bright yellow panties. Cormac "Mack" Steel made a lot of enemies in his year wearing the studded leather sash, not the least being his co-winner Mistress Ravenfyre. But she is not alone – there are over three thousand attendees at this year's fetish-festooned event from all over the world, some of whom might have had some very personal issues with the corpse.

Enter Detective Rebecca Feldblum of the Midtown East Precinct. Assigned to this doozy of a case because, as one of NYC's only out lesbian detectives, her Lieutenant seems to believe these are "her people." Shocked, amazed and alternately puzzled and amused, Detective Feldblum must navigate a world of doms and subs, masters and mistresses, pups and trainers, leather, latex and lingerie, and discover who murdered the late Mack Steel – and hopefully do it before the weekend is over and everyone goes home. In the process, she will discover more about the sexual underworld than she ever really wanted to know, and more about her own past than she could have ever imagined.

Written in the classic spirit of Sharyn McCrumb's Bimbos of the Death Sun, The Killer Wore Leather is both an engaging mystery and a humorous glimpse into the world of modern, pansexual international leather/BDSM contests and conferences.
