Love and Protect

Ex-DEA agent Erin Montgomery is reluctantly back on the job, posing as the sex-kitten groupie girlfriend of rock star Sean Ledger. She'll be joining his band's tour to try to catch an obsessed, dangerous fan. Tormented by nightmares of her failed last assignment, Erin's not exactly eager to be drawn back into the fray. But once she meets Sean, all rocker, all man and dripping with raw sex appeal, she knows she's right where she belongs.

Sean is reluctant to have someone investigating his crew, but when he meets Erin, his objections fly out the window. The beautiful, hard-bitten agent turns him on like no other woman ever has. Sean's caught glimpses of the fiery passion lurking under Erin's cool front and he's determined to break through her hard exterior and make her his.

But Sean's stalker is still at large and she's made it clear she's willing to stop at nothing-even murder-to get him.

What is it about a rock star that makes women want to take off their under garments and throw them at him? Maybe it is the intense passion and focus that he so easily pours into his guitar, fingers rapidly moving over the neck and body with such purpose that he seems lost in his own world. That iconic image of him so stimulating that they have to get rid of any offending garment that stands in their way. Sending them flying towards their desired target so that he knows he is not alone and that what he is doing is working. The tight pants and shirtless, sweaty torso being highlighted by the pulsing strobe lights doesn't help either. If you have ever dreamed of being one of those women who was lucky enough live out their fantasy of being with a rock god then Love and Protect by Naima Simone.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Erin," Sean murmured, eliminating the distance between them in seconds. He extended his hand toward her. Several silent moments passed. Erin glanced down then back up before slowly stretching her hand forward and clasping her palm to his. The slim fingers wrapping around his in a firm grip were strong. Confident. And sexy as a motherfuck.

Erin nodded and removed her hand from his. She crossed her arms over her chest and her full breasts plumped, treating him to a display of cleavage that would make a grown man cry in gratitude.

Her shrewd gaze noted the direction of his attention. A slim brow arched high.

"They're breasts. Last time I checked every woman had a pair."

Thus begins the relationship between Erin Montgomery and Sean Ledger. Sean is a world famous guitarist who has the love and devotion of a host of people- most especially women. He is being stalked by an obsessed fan. He is the classic commitment phobic hero whose talents on the guitar equal his talents in the bedroom. What saves him from being a complete jerk is that he becomes aware of how his actions have affected people early on in the story and is not too stubborn to admit that his actions are irresponsible. So he charges his best friend and former DEA agent Braedon Roberts to stop the troubled woman before someone seriously gets hurt. Braedon can think of only one person who can help Sean. Problem is she doesn't want the job at all.

Erin is a former DEA who is haunted by several tragic events in her past. As a child she and Sean for a short time lived in the same foster home. The one solid memory that makes her smile is of Sean, who did everything that he could to protect her. When she is contacted by Braedon, her former boss, Erin rudely dismisses him for her own personal reasons, but he will not take no for an answer. Erin's need to atonement for a past action and to repay Sean for his generous actions spurs her to take on a new assignment. Erin quickly realizes that this new case is more difficult to handle than what she is used to. Playing Sean's latest plaything would have been simple if she was not sexually attracted to him. As with all romance novels she quickly falls under his charms and begins a sexual relationship with him. Blurring the lines between fantasy and reality, she pursues the relationship but vows that she will not reveal her true identity to him fearful of reliving her nightmares all over again.

What I admire most about Erin and this story as a whole is the switched gender roles that the couple takes on. Erin is the abrupt, slightly insecure alpha protector whose language is more blue than usual. While Sean is more laid back easily lets the professional protectors do their jobs. But don't let his public demeanor fool you, he is sexually dominant and loves his rough play as often as possible.

Truthfully, I enjoyed this story a lot but am having trouble giving it a five star review. I could be hypercritical and say that the sex scenes could have been more graphic but I just chalk it up to preference; all writers don't need to do write extremely graphic sex scenes in order to have a good story. Sometimes I would prefer no sex scenes at all if the story that sounds it is lacking, hot sex scenes can -in certain cases-highlight a bad story.

One small criticism is that I find it a little hard to believe the connections between all three characters. If Braedon knew both of them then why didn't he even mention once while he and were working together that he knew Sean.

Overall Love and Protect is a well-written erotic romance that is more than just a succession of sex scenes, it has elements of suspense, a genuine romance, and enough intrigue to keep me guessing until the last word. This is a good story and I would highly recommend it wholeheartedly.
