Lessons from the Professor

Lessons from the Professor is a fabulous and fast read that will leave all lovers of interracial erotic romance blissfully satisfied. Ms. Colt has deftly crafted a story filled with engaging protagonists and wonderfully drawn supporting characters that add to the story rather than detract from the main characters. While the story is a shade on the predictable side it was still charming enough where I did not care that I knew the ending before I actually finished the story. Sutton and Sidney is a well-matched pair that oozes chemistry from the moment they meet on the page. You can easily empathize with both characters; Sutton with her spoiled younger sister and meddling mother. And Sidney’s reluctance to form a bond with Sutton after having his last relationship implodes. They are equals from the start and reading their relationship blossom from strangers to lovers was a pleasure to read. I have never read anything by Shyla Colt before but I hope to do so again. This is a highly recommended read.

Sutton is a well-respected ER nurse who, after a devastating break up with her fiancé, has unofficially sworn off men to dedicate all her time to her patients and her family. When her best friend and co-worker Leigh invites her to dinner, as per her routine, Sutton declines the offer to instead go home and sleep until her next shift. When she overhears a few of her colleagues make a few negative comments about her, she impulsively decides to change her plans and dinner with Leigh and her husband. As she arrives with Leigh she is introduced to Sidney, a professor of human behavior who works with Leigh’s husband. Sutton is immediately taken with the older, regal looking, professor and his Welsh accent. The feelings are completely mutual as there is something innocent, wild and sensual pure and submissive that attracts the long dormant Dom instincts in Sidney. He introduces her to his world as any professor knows how to do: with patience, understanding. She, in response, thrives under his tutelage. The couple explores the complicated workings of a Dom/sub relationship they are also trying to keep their pasts from extinguishing any future that they may have together.

Book Blurb for Lessons from the Professor

Human Behavior Professor, Sidney Rothman is no stranger to heartache at the hands of a younger woman. So when he meets the charming mocha-skinned beauty, he’s wary. Her sweet nature and natural tendency for submissive behavior overrule his fear, and Sidney decides to train her as a sub. Sutton takes to the lifestyle like a duck to water, but the one thing he didn’t bargain for was her ability to thaw the ice around his heart.

Sutton thrives on pressure. Handed a heavy load of responsibility from the time she was young, she’s fallen into the habit of pushing her feelings aside to get things done. After spending the past ten years focused on her career and family, she begins to notice how empty her condo feels and longs for something more. From the moment she meets Sidney, she’s instantly attracted to his intelligence and regal demeanor. When he introduces her to the BDSM lifestyle, her unexpected response surprises her. Good girls did not beg to be spanked. Or did they? Can she open up to Sidney and learn to live for herself before it’s too late?
