Her Beguiling Bride continues the tale of new found lovers Alice and Belle. It has been three years since the end of the Civil War and everything has been slowly but surely returning to normal. Alice and Belle are trying everything that they can to save their home from being taken away due to the harsh taxes that are being placed against southern towns by the North. The few paths that they have are quickly leading to dead ends and they are frantically trying to resolve their financial woes before it is too late.
I have enjoyed reading Paisley Smith’s contemporary lesbian erotica so when I saw this book was available I quickly scooped it up before anyone else had a chance to get it. I had a completely different review to this book original until I did a little research and see that this is sequel. The first book is called Beguiled and features the main protagonists three years after the end of the first book. Unfortunately this story is not a standalone title. You will need to have read the first story to really understand who the main characters are and why they are important to the story. Now, having said all that, I still really enjoyed this novella. I liked the fact that there are just enough vivid details throughout the story to give you a good feel of the environment without being overwhelming. The chemistry between the couple is scorching and the sex scenes are both heavily erotic yet sweet at the same time.
The pacing was a little quick for me- most especially towards the end. But that might have more to do with the fact that many details where revealed in the first book. Another negative for me was that the story was too short. I realize that this is labeled as fling, but I really liked these characters and want this to be a full novel; the story is just that good. Overall the story was well- written and engaging from the first to the last page. If you have read the first then you will be more than happy with this novella. If you are like me then you enjoyed this and will be searching for a reading Beguiled as soon as possible. I highly recommend this novella.
A St. Paddy's Day Fling!
Three years have passed since Belle Holloway gave her heart to Alice O’Malley, the brash woman Union soldiers left on the doorstep of Belle’s Georgia plantation. Now Reconstruction Era taxes threaten their home, and Belle must decide between the female lover whose touch sets her flesh and soul ablaze. Or a cold marriage to a wealthy man and an even colder bed.
In hopes of saving the plantation, Belle and Alice travel to Savannah where doors close at every turn. Until Alice tenders a scandalous proposal that could cost them everything...or offer them the love of a lifetime.
