Nobody knows who he will choose next, though the anticipation is high, as the Duke of Morland chooses but one dance partner per ball. At the stroke of midnight, he dances one set, escorts the lady to dinner, then disappears. Never does he dance with the same lady twice. If only they knew the true reason for his hasty departure.
Lady Amelia d'Orsay has no expectations that the Duke of Midnight, as he's been dubbed, will choose her as his partner, so she takes matters in her own hands. Little does she know what the consequences of one little dance will have on the rest of her life.
I fell in love with Tessa Dare's writing when I picked up ONE DANCE WITH A DUKE, and quickly found myself completely immersed into the tale of Amelia and Spencer. I couldn't bare to put the book down once I stepped into her Regency world. Her characters were vibrant and alive, popping off the pages into my heart as I continued to read. I loved watching Amelia and Spencer's relationship form into an everlasting, believable love story.
Spencer was absolutely horse-mad, and had less than zero people skills, it was fascinating watching Amelia try to teach him some social etiquette...especially around his loved ones. Amelia was such a loving and nurturing person. I enjoyed many laughs at their banter, but my heartstrings were tugged as they both had to struggle to learn to love and accept each other, flaws and all.
This is one of the few stories that I hated to see come to an end. Thankfully I won't have to wait too long for the next installment of the Stud Club trilogy to come out, especially since there are many questions still left unanswered into the mystery which first drew Amelia and Spencer together. I really want to know what decision Claudia made, and I can't wait to see Lily put Bellamy into his place, though I know that their story is the last of the series. Ashworth's story is next, I look forward to seeing the woman that can teach him about love. And, of course, I hope we get glimpses of Amelia and Spencer. I also would like to see if Jack was able to straighten himself out.
This was my first experience with Tessa Dare's work, but as soon as I finished this, I glommed onto her first series...and just finished GODDESS OF THE HUNT and will be starting SURRENDER OF A SIREN next. She is a new AUTOBUY author for me. A wonderfully fresh voice in the historical romance genre I love so much.
