Diana Carrick knows that the only way to free herself, is to be ruined by Tarquin Vale, Earl of Ashcroft. His reputation as heartless rogue fits perfectly into her plans of a brief affair. But can she allow herself to seduce the notorious rake? When the seduction is complete will either of them be able to just walk away, or will their passion take them into a realm of unexpected emotions and desires? What if he turns the tables on her, asking her for more that she is willing to give?
In MY RECKLESS SURRENDER, Anna Campbell intertwines anticipation, dread, passion and fulfillment into an impressively written tale. I love her voice, as she doesn't shy away from the darker side of humanity, which I feel drew me more completely into the lives of her characters. She also mixes in a rather sarcastic humor, which blended beautifully with the storyline and characters, never jarring me out of the story. I get to feel a whole range of emotions as I read her books, which is something I love.
It would be safe to keep a fan nearby while reading this book, as the desire between Tarquin and Diana flames quickly into sizzling heat. I couldn't wait to see where the heights of Tarquin and Diana's passion would lead them, not only sexually but also emotionally, as I also found myself dreading the consequences of the actions of Diana when the truth came to light. I found myself understanding why both of them made the life choices they did, even if I didn't particularly agree with them. Tarquin and Diana were both exquisitely described, physically and emotionally. I would love to have been there for Tarquin and helping him to learn how to love without the fear of rejection, he was so delicious. Diana was an intelligent character, though a few of her choices seemed a bit dumb, but they didn't overshadow her strong personality.
I was a bit put off by the ending of this story, as it seemed a bit rushed. It wasn't a disappointing ending by any means. It just felt as if explanations and forgiveness were given a bit too easily.
As always I greatly anticipate Ms. Campbell's next book.
