Beauty and the Duke

When they were younger, Christine Sommers and Erik Boughton, Duke of Sedgwick, fell in love. But circumstances pulled them apart. Erik married another, while Christine followed her studies, traveling across the world to learn more about her second passion, paleontology.

Ten years later, Erik has lost two wives, the ton views him with apprehension as they figure he's had something to do with their demise. Erik is in need of a wife, and holds something that Christine wants dearly. But will she sacrifice her heart again for the chance of a lifetime discovery? Can they recapture the love and passion they left behind?

BEAUTY AND THE DUKE is a very delightful read. I enjoyed the complex emotions that shaped Christine and Erik's relationship. They had a lot of past issues to get through before they could find their happy ever after. I loved the intelligence of the characters, as both Christine and Erik are both very smart, not only in book sense, but they also exhibited common sense. I could understand the reluctance of Christine to fall back in love with Erik, but was glad that she gave him a chance, and enjoyed the journey to their fulfillment. I also enjoyed the mystery of what happened to Erik's second wife, though I felt the outcome was a bit over-the-top.

I look forward to reading more of Melody Thomas books, as this was a nice, solid read. Her style is easy to follow and like.

But when he comes to Christine, desperate for her help to preserve his family and his title, she does not fear the devil duke. Enthralled by his ravenous desire, she would give him anything he wished, even her body . . . and her heart.
