When two countries are at war, either party would want to gain an upper hand using data gathering from their respective informants. However things can go to heck and this is exactly what happened during the war between the US and Afghanistan. When a soldier is dedicated to serving his country and is killed in battle, well that's what officials wanted to believe, there can be another war on the horizon. The Forgotten Soldier is based on activities related to the US war in Afghanistan involving corrupted officials from both the US and the Middle East.
In this story Guy George gets a package delivery he always dreaded he would one day receive, his brother Timothy’s remains. Timothy was killed in combat in Afghanistan after dedicating his life in the army. Guy uses his own military skills going on a covert mission to discover what the Middle East officials are up to.
Author, Brad Taylor did a good job in maintaining the storyline throughout the book and never deviating from its theme which is centrally based on how the buildup of trust between two entities can lead to treason. Readers of this book will need to keep very focused on the plot buildup till around halfway through the book to really get all the nuances that are happening. You wouldn’t want to miss something that is a key plot point as it all unravels in the later half.

While the US administration wants to forget the casualty, one Taskforce member will not. When he sets out to avenge his brother's death, his actions threaten to not only expose the Taskforce's activities, but also destroy a web of alliances against a greater evil. Pike Logan understands the desire, but also the danger. Brought in to eliminate the risk, he's now forced to choose between his friend and the administration he's sworn to protect, while unbeknownst to either of them, the soldier's death is only the beginning....
