The Cost of Crude

The Cost of Crude is a well written book with the story flowing throughout. I thought that there were too many conversations among the characters and this led to the reader at times losing track of the story. Overall this was a good 3.5 star read.

Corporate espionage and murder are both incorporated into this suspense book. With close colleagues and a friend gone missing, after becoming too involved in the inner workings of a corporate conspiracy and with the help of a detective, Gwynn Reznick decided she had enough of the mysterious events at the CT Oil and Gas Company and decides to take matters into her own hands.

John McIntyre, Wilton Oil’s CEO, is having a meeting with executives from CT Oil and Gas Company, Wilton’s chief rival. Unknowing to the executives, the meeting is being secretly recorded but someone detects the microphones. Gwynn gets involved in the disappearance of her best friend who was doing the eavesdropping on the meeting. Eventually other colleagues also go missing and slowly evidence of conspiracy develops. With the help of a detective, Gwynn is hell bent on finding what really happened to her friends. However all her movements are being monitored, from her apartment being wired to being followed by a person(s). As the plot thickens, Gwynn unearths a very intricate web of corporate conspiracy mixed with criminal activity that seriously jeopardizes her life. Will Gwynn meet the same fate as the rest of her friends? Although Gwynn lacked the skills of a professional detective, she was determined to bring this mystery to an end.
