The Mage's Daughter

A Novel of the Nine Kingdoms

Lynn has brought about another book in the ongoing tales of the 9 kingdoms. While this book can work as a stand-alone, I strongly recommend that you read Star of the Morning, first. After all, history and family events make more sense if you have the background first. I should probably warn you, though, you might want to set aside a section of your bookshelves just for Lynn’s books. I have :).

On receiving this book, I was eagerly looking forward to my next foray into the 9 kingdoms and was not disappointed. This book does pick up after the events of Star of the Morning (hence my suggestion to read that one, first) but does provide enough information that you don’t really need to read the prior book first. This has great adventure, dark discoveries and (of course) magic. One strong piece of advice is given to all swordsmen and that is to stick a sword in any mage so that they can’t use magic on you. This is one of the most important lessons taught by Weger (a very important recurring character) to aspiring swordsmen and women.

We have a swordswoman that fears a past she doesn’t remember, after watching her entire family die at 6 years old. We also have an arch mage whose kingdom comes first. He must decide between his duty to family and kingdom and his heart. In this novel we get to see actual character growth, which is often painful to see, but we also get hope. While this is a romance, the romance is not unbelievably overdone and the tale itself is not just a veneer for the romance. You definitely get a good ride and this book is well worth the time (and space on your bookshelf). Get ready; you will want to get Princess of the Sword to finish this particular story line. I did warn you about your bookshelf.
