Kari Lee Townsend – A Future of Suspense! - Dark Streets
If you like your mysteries peppered with suspense and just a dash of the supernatural, then Kari Lee Townsend’s Fortune Teller Mystery series by Berkeley Prime Crime could be the one for you! It’s like getting a pinch of Tea Leaves, A Sprinkling of Tarot, and dusting off your Crystal Ball all in one 300 page package!
Kari, who has been both a winner and a finalist n several online writing contests (including the Amazon Breakout Novel Contest) has also been nominated for a Golden Duck Award, an Agatha Award, and a RT Reviewers Choice Award. In addition to creating memorable characters, she’s also a freelance editor in her spare (??!!) and a member of several writing organizations.
Kari writes both teen and adult books, but is best known for her “Fortune Teller” mysteries – a suspenseful series set in a small town with just a slight hint of the paranormal and quirkey, albeit fun, characters.
The first novel in this series, TEMPEST IN THE TEA LEAVES, was nomimated for both a RT Reviewers Choice Award and an Agatha!
The series centers on the adventures of Sunshine Meadows, a psychic who moves to the small town of Divinity, NY (mainly to escape her overbearing parents). She buys an ancient Victorian house with a very strange resident – a large white cat she names Morty. (who may or may not have strange powers, the jury is still out). When she gives her first reading to the town librarian, she predicts her death – an event which does occur and which results in Sunny’s meeting the handsome, hard-nosed detective Mitch Stone, a “non-believer”. Buy story’s end, though, Mitch is grudgingly convinced, if not of Sunny’s mental prowess at least of her ability as an amateur sleuth, and one can feel the palpable romantic tension between them.
In Book Two, Corpse in the Crystal Ball, Mitch’s gorgeous ex-girlfriend shows up and when she’s found dead shortly thereafter, Mitch is accused of the crime! Sunny struggles with her attraction for Mitch as she follows clues to unmask the real killer in a quite unexpected manner. This book also sees the introduction of an incredibly quirky character, Sunny’s Granny Gert!
Which brings us to Kari’s latest release: Trouble in the Tarot, released this month. From the Berkeley Prime Crime site:
For psychic Sunshine Meadows, sometimes fortunes can be deceiving...
Lately Sunny has been experiencing a period of big opportunity: her business in Divinity, New York, is thriving, and Detective Mitch Stone has finally agreed to take Sunny on a date. But thanks to her clairvoyant abilities, Sunny knows better than anyone that life deals out bad cards along with the good. When Sunny agrees to read tarot cards at the annual Summer Solstice Carnival, she meets her Granny Gert's "arch nemesis" Fiona Atwater, and is overcome by a vision of Fiona in a violent argument. Sunny knows trouble is brewing when Granny and Fiona start having squabbles all over town. But the fighting comes to a head when a local baker gets run over by a big white Cadillac--and Granny and Fiona are found at the crime scene. Sunny knows she should step aside and let Mitch handle the investigating, but she's not about to ignore her visions and leave her granny's life in fates hands...
Now if that doesn’t sound full of suspense I don’t know what does! Personally, I can’t wait to read it!
