Mother May I … Have a Romance, Please? - The Romance Zone
Happy Mom’s Day to all of you with children—and grandchildren too! I don’t know about you, but what I’d love for myself is both my boys home for the day. Sadly, that won’t happen this year, as the married one & his bride work that day (law enforcement) and the single one is finishing up a last University class before grad school begins this summer.
So it will be Alpha Man and me, doing something I enjoy. I’ll probably choose buying flowers for all my outdoor pots, and he’ll help me plant them and haul them into place on the front walk and back patio. Growing things … not a bad activity for this special day. And flowers are sooo much easier than children, right?
But parent or not, you need something sweet for yourself this month. Here are a few I’ve enjoyed, some sweet, some hotter than hot.
Just for Mom’s day, here’s one of my favorite tropes—the secret child. Dad’s in for a BIG surprise! How will he handle it, and will this mother agree?
Merger of the Heart, by Melia Alexander. Glenwood Falls series. Contemporary.
He's about to acquire a whole lot more than a business…
When her grandfather dies, Jessica Adams inherits the family construction business. But there are strings attached. Big, deal-breaking strings. For one, Jessica's grandfather was in the process of selling the company to a national firm. And two? The big wig who made the offer for Jessica's business is none other than Daniel Spencer, her ex-lover and the father of her seven-year-old son. Only Daniel doesn't know.
What started as a standard business acquisition has turned Daniel's entire world, and his plans, inside out. But even as he offers her the deal of the lifetime, everything changes when he meets her son. Their son. Now Daniel is laying everything on the line to put together a much different kind of merger...if he can convince Jessica to take the biggest risk of her life.
And speaking of unexpected parenting—this eligible bachelor is struggling to raise his nephew. But has he just wrecked his chance for the perfect partner? She loves kids, writes for them in fact, and connects with his nephew in a way he never has. But … he just fired her!
Almost Like Love, by Abigail Strom. Contemporary.
Television writer Kate Meredith is having the day from hell. First, her show was canceled. Then her fiancé left her for another woman. Now, she's courting disaster by flirting with the hard-bodied, tattooed, motorcycle-riding bad boy of her dreams…who also happens to be the man who fired her.
If people had told Ian Hart that he'd be firing Kate in the morning and dancing with her that night, he'd have laughed in their faces. Despite her leggy body, the sweet but geeky redhead isn’t his type. At least, that’s what he thinks before spotting her in a club wearing an outfit that reveals her surprisingly delectable assets.
Before he knows it, Ian becomes Kate’s knight on a shining motorcycle, escorting her home to prevent her from running off with some random guy. But when the night is over, “Little Miss Boring” and her sexy former boss just might turn their oh-so-wrong feelings into something very right.
I’ve been reading NA lately, and finding some fabulous stories that bring back all the tension and heartache of my college years. It’s a time to break into adulthood, sometimes at a cost.
The Deal, by Elle Kennedy. ‘Off Campus’ Book 1. Contemporary NA.
She's about to make a deal with the college bad boy...
Hannah Wells has finally found someone who turns her on. But while she might be confident in every other area of her life, she's carting around a full set of baggage when it comes to sex and seduction. If she wants to get her crush's attention, she'll have to step out of her comfort zone and make him take notice...even if it means tutoring the annoying, childish, cocky captain of the hockey team in exchange for a pretend date.
...and it's going to be oh so good
All Garrett Graham has ever wanted is to play professional hockey after graduation, but his plummeting GPA is threatening everything he's worked so hard for. If helping a sarcastic brunette make another guy jealous will help him secure his position on the team, he's all for it. But when one unexpected kiss leads to the wildest sex of both their lives, it doesn't take long for Garrett to realize that pretend isn't going to cut it. Now he just has to convince Hannah that the man she wants looks a lot like him.
Not a child to be found in this story, but there’s the unexpected sweetness of a quirky, fabulous duo who … hunt zombies?? But if you’re a touch squeamish like me, no worries. These aren’t the rotting kind.
Night Whispers, by Alisha Rai. ShadowLands, Book 1. Apocalyptic romance.
When every night is a battle for survival, love is an endangered species.
Analyst James Bennett has spent the years since humankind fell victim to the Illness living underground. Part of an elite group of survivors determined to save their race, his only interaction with the blood-drinking Shadows roaming the Earth is through surveillance technology carried by his team of search-and-rescue agents. Scarred by vicious events, he has no desire to leave the safety of his bunker for the dangerous world outside—until he recruits a tough, haunted young woman clear across the country.
Former gang member Jules Guerrero learned two things early on: the value of loyalty and never backing down from a fight. Both of those teachings come in handy now that her job description includes protecting humans and kicking Shadow ass. But it’s hard to keep her mind strictly on her mission when all she can think about is the man whose voice keeps her sane through the depths of each dark night.
When Jules is captured and threatened by a rogue organization even more bloodthirsty than the Shadows, James must draw on all of his courage to fuel a furious cross-country chase through the lawless land…before the Jules he loves is destroyed forever.
Warning: Contains a hero who would fight monsters for his love, a heroine out to save the world, a treacherous wasteland, poetry as foreplay and flesh-eating enemies.
Onward to the galaxy! This heroine has been tagged to be a mom—by her captors. Trouble is, she’s a clone, and clones can’t reproduce.
Angel 6.0, by Travis Luedke. A Serialized Space Opera. (Start with Concubine)
Nugene is only the beginning of my story.
Born of illegal experimentation on the human genome, I've been taken for a ride across the galaxy, enslaved to the warlike race of Cats called The Gran. They think I'm some kind of upgrade, a new slave stock to be bred.
Though many would resent me for the decisions I have made, they never experienced my struggle to find love and meaning in a world where I do not belong.
A freak of nature, the humans don't want me.
Far more valuable than they could ever know, the Cats don't appreciate me.
Lost in the conflict between two galactic empires, the pirates can't save me.
Standing at the center of an interstellar war, the Earth Defense Council never saw me coming.
I am Angel 6.0 and this is the dark, wicked, violent tale of my life.
I am thrilled to finally present the culmination of my current space opera series. This story has been months in the re-making, as it was lost in a computer crash in November ’14 (Yes, I now back up 6 ways to Sunday) and completely re-written. As Mom would say, ‘Well, bet you won’t do that again!’ She knows a lesson learned the hard way won’t be forgotten.
And speaking of lessons, Logan Stark is in for an incredibly harsh one!
Stark Surrender; the Space Magnate’s Bride, by Cathryn Cade. LodeStar, Book 4. Space Opera SFR Romance.
He climbed from the slums of New Seattle to a life of power and wealth ... but now he must survive those cruel streets again, without even his memories to guide him.
Logan Stark has fallen from his throne at the pinnacle of a financial empire spanning the galaxy. He's lost in the filthy, crime-ridden streets of New Seattle, Earth II. Even worse, he has no memory of who he is, or how he got here. But the worst villain in the history of this city knows exactly who he is ... and Mordacity is after Stark.
Kiri te Nawa swore she'd never return to the place where she lost everything. But to help find the man she can't forget, she must put aside her new life on Frontiera and accompany his brothers back to New Seattle. Will they find Stark before he is claimed by the surging darkness in his mind, or by death?
And back to our contemporary world, I’m also debuting a new series this month, set here in my own little resort town, Coeur d’Alene Idaho. MCs, murder, missing millions of dollars, big beautiful women and hot bikers … what could go wrong?
Show Me the Honey, by Cathryn Cade. A Sweet & Dirty BBW Romance. Contemporary.
When a small town cafe owner is grabbed by a rambling biker looking for nearly a million in stolen cash, she must convince him to let her go. But finding out he has the wrong woman only makes him more determined to hang onto her ... this time for all the right reasons.
Lindi Carson has no time for romance in her life--not when she's scrambling to make a success of her Coeur d’Alene Lake shore café. She's barely keeping her head above water when biker Jack Moran hits town, sure she knows where nearly a million in stolen cash is hidden. When Jack grabs her, Lindi must convince him he has the wrong woman.
But Jack's not the only one after the money, and someone is willing to kill to get it. With murder lurking in this idyllic resort town and a dangerous MC on the prowl, Jack must persuade Lindi she belongs not only under his protection … but in his arms. He'll use every ounce of his rough charm to get her, but he may have to battle old ghosts to keep her there.
Can he convince her that love's sweetness is worth the sting?
A Sweet & Dirty Big Beautiful Woman Romance
