Everyone loves bacon right? Bacon Nation affirms that everyone does love bacon. Those that don’t just haven’t tried it!
The first picture I noticed in this cookbook was a black iron skillet with three pieces of bacon arranged into a smiley face. I have to agree. Bacon makes people happy. It puts them in a good mood and makes every dish better when it’s added. Many southern dishes include bacon. My husband would eat bacon for breakfast every morning if I cooked it.
Bacon grease is like gold. I was excited to see several new ideas about what cooks can do with all of that saved bacon grease. I have never cooked bacon in the microwave, but that is just one tip that this cookbook urges you to try. They even take you step by step through the process.
The appetizer section is a favorite. Bacon Jam? Who would have thought. I will be trying that one. The pictures are clear and will make one hungry. Apparently you can wrap bacon around anything and bake it.
The soup and salad sections had many mouth-watering recipes, but I noticed the pictures dropped off here. There was not a picture for every recipe and I believe most cooks want that. Other than the main heading chapter picture, the remainder of the book had few pictures.
I was ecstatic to see the addition of bacon in breads and muffins and the breakfast chapter near the end. The appendix included places to buy great bacon- kudos for that.
I don’t know that I’m ready for chocolate and bacon in the same dish, but I won’t dis it until I try it.
With over 125 recipes in this cookbook there is definitely something for the new and the seasoned bacon lover.

Main courses featuring meats—Brawny Bacon Beef Bourguignon, Saltimbacon; poultry—Paella with Chicken and Bacon; fish—Flaky Cod Fillets with Bacon and Wine-Braised Fennel; and pasta, including an update of the classic Roman dish Bucatini all’Amatriciana. Even dessert: Rum Ice Cream with Candied Bacon Chips and Chocolate-Peanut-Bacon Toffee. Or, as Homer Simpson would say, Mmmm, bacon.
