Fire Up for 2015 with Some Hot Romance Series! - The Romance Zone
I love getting my hands on a new series, don’t you? If I love the first book, I know I’m in for a long, happy read as I follow the characters through adventures in their world.
Hmm, could be why I love writing series too—who wants to leave just when a world is populated with all those fun secondary characters, ripe for romance and trouble? Not me!
Here are some series that will take you away from all the stresses and business of life. Enjoy!
Debuting in the bleak mid-winter, here’s a debut series opener about second chances.
THE KISS OF A ROSE, by Augustina van Hoven. Historical paranormal.
A DISTANT PAST
In 1882, Rose Van Buren loved the wrong man and paid for it with her life. Now, more than a century later, the angel Gabriel has granted her another shot at living. In exchange, she must convince a smart, handsome, up-and-coming lawyer to set aside his lofty ambitions.
A FUTURE PRESENT
Stephen Winship is headed straight for the governor’s chair. He has a brilliant career, solid allies, and a seemingly perfect girlfriend. But night after night he finds himself dreaming of a heavenly beauty, a luminous but long-dead girl. Like some altered Ghost of Christmas Past, she shows him her own tragic tale in order to “save him.” And he’s beginning to see Rose is risking her heart as much as baring her soul. Yet falling for her will cost him everything—and open him up to a happiness he never imagined.
Always fun to begin a series with a FREE sneak peek! Especially when that peek includes ghosts …
A GIFT OF GHOSTS, Tassamara Bk 1 by Sarah Wynd. Contemporary paranormal.
Akira has secrets. But so does the town of Tassamara.
Akira Malone believes in the scientific method, evolution, and Einstein’s theory of relativity. And ghosts.
All the logic and reason in the world can’t protect her from the truth—she can see and communicate with spirits. But Akira is sure that her ability is just a genetic quirk and the ghosts she encounters simply leftover electromagnetic energy. Dangerous electromagnetic energy.
Zane Latimer believes in telepathy, precognition, auras, and that playing Halo with your employees is an excellent management technique. He also thinks that maybe, just maybe, Akira can help his family get in touch with their lost loved ones.
But will Akira ever be able to face her fears and accept her gift? Or will Zane’s relatives be trapped between life and death forever?
Next up, a series that will have you devouring installments like buttered popcorn. You can’t read just one! The Kraken King is also available as a single full novel.
THE KRAKEN KING, Pts 1-8, by Meljean Brook. Steampunk.
New York Times bestselling author Meljean Brook.
Bk 1, The Kraken King and the Scribbling Spinster
A former smuggler and thief, Ariq—better known as the Kraken King—doesn’t know what to make of the clever, mysterious woman he rescues from an airship besieged by marauders. Unsure if she’s a spy or a pawn in someone else’s game, Ariq isn’t about to let her out of his sight until he finds out…
After escaping her fourth kidnapping attempt in a year, Zenobia Fox has learned to vigilantly guard her identity. While her brother Archimedes is notorious for his exploits, Zenobia has had no adventures to call her own—besides the stories she writes.
But when she jumps at the chance to escape to the wilds of Australia and acquire research for her next story, Zenobia quickly discovers that the voyage will be far more adventurous than any fiction she could put to paper… because her mysterious rescuer is none other than the fabled rebel leader The Kraken King.
And her heart may just be her greatest vulnerability.
How about a series twist on Pygmalion, the play that started My Fair Lady, Pretty Woman, etc.
ISN’T SHE LOVELY? Redemption .5 by Lauren Layne. NA contemporary.
The rules are clear—until they're broken.
"Who knew that pretending you're not falling for someone would be so much more difficult than pretending that you are?"
Stephanie Kendrick gave up her whole summer to ace her NYU film school screenwriting course, so she's pissed to be stuck with a preppy, spoiled frat boy as her writing partner. Then again, with her piercings, black-rimmed eyes, and Goth wardrobe, Stephanie isn't exactly Ethan Price's type, either. He's probably got his eye on some leggy blonde with a trust fund... or does he?
As the summer scene kicks off in the Hamptons, Ethan is desperate to make his snobbish mother forget the pedigreed girl who broke his heart. While Stephanie's a stretch as a decoy, the right makeover and a pastel cardigan just might do the trick. She may not love the idea of playing Ethan's brainless Barbie girlfriend, but the free rent and luxurious digs make a tempting offer. So does the promise of a ready-made screenplay idea inspired by their charade.
But when Stephanie steps into Ethan's privileged world, the "acting" begins to feel all too real. The kissing and touching that were intended to fool the Hamptons crowd wind up manipulating "them." And Stephanie faces a question she's too afraid to ask: Is Ethan falling for the real her or for the dolled-up princess he wants to see?
Sigh … all good series must come to an end sometime—if only so we can go back and re-read our favorite books, right? So it is with the incredibly sexy, powerful Kayrs clan.
MARKED by Rebecca Zanetti. DARK PROTECTORS. Paranormal.
Janie Kayrs has known Zane almost her whole life. He was her friend in the dream world. She trusted him. But that was before he kidnapped her, spiriting her away to an isolated cabin to learn what her dreams never told her. Like how dangerous he looks. How he got on the wrong side of the negotiating table. And how much sexier he is in real life…
Zane is a battle-hardened warrior, used to command and solitude. But Janie has drawn him from the minute they met. His need for her could destroy everything he’s worked for, but the risk is too sweet not to take it. They call her the Chosen One. But when it comes down to the questions of peace or war, life or death, safety or passion, it will be Janie who makes the choice…
Love is about to start conquering…
This next series welcomes you back into the slightly kinky series world of Entangled Brazen’s ‘Serve’, a BDSM club favored by some of our hottest contemp authors … or their characters, at least.
MISTAKEN BY FATE by Katee Robert. Contemporary.
The man she should want, or the man she craves…
Fashion designer Ridley Ethridge thinks she's found the perfect, stable sort of guy in her childhood friend Will Reaver. With seduction in her sights, she arranges to rock Will's world at an exclusive club that caters to those with adventurous and erotic appetites. What happens next is both intense and satisfying—until Ridley's blindfold comes off to reveal Will's twin brother. The same twin who broke her heart eight years ago.
Former soldier Garrett Reaver hasn't ever gotten Ridley out of his system. And now that she's before him in all her submissive glory? He'll be damned before he lets someone else have her, especially his brother. Because Garrett and Ridley have some seriously unfinished business to take care of, and it starts now. And this time, he'll show Ridley how exquisite a relationship with him could be…if their past doesn't catch up to them first.
Now here’s a series that’s guaranteed to burn a path thru your coldest winter nights, and leave you laughing as well. And it doesn’t wrap up until early spring, so you have plenty of time to catch up.
FIRST GRAVE ON THE RIGHT, a Charley Davidson story by Darynda Jones. Contemporary humorous paranormal.
First Grave on the Right is the smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper.
Charley sees dead people. That's right, she sees dead people. And it's her job to convince them to "go into the light." But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e., murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.
Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she's been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
This is a thrilling debut novel from Darynda Jones, an exciting newcomer to the world of paranormal romantic suspense. Winner of the 2012 Rita Award for Best First Book.
And altho far, far from series’ end, my own sci fi romance characters welcome you to yet another adventure in the common world of Frontiera, the Orion and LodeStar series.
HEART OF STEEL, Frontiera, Bk 2, by Cathryn Cade. A smexy space opera novella.
Dr. Daria Lovejoy, advice maven for the galaxy, can't talk her way out when she's kidnapped by a pirate. But then, why would she want to?
Jark Steele may be as fearsome as the space pirate on the cover of Daria’s favorite romance, but he’s also much, much more. He battled his way out of the slums of Earth I with his immense size and brawn, but this cruiser pilot has brains as well. And he’s not missing this chance to prove it to the woman of his dreams.
When Daria discovers Jark saved her from being snatched by kidnappers hired by her own fiancé, she rewards him and herself with a night of passion. She discovers this man of steel is one alpha male who knows how to make a woman feel ravished ... in the best possible way.
But despite her fame for urging others to go after their dreams, will she find the courage to grasp all that’s possible in their newfound passion … or will she retreat behind her safe, public persona?
A 36K novella in the Frontiera Series. A much shorter version of this story appeared on the Samhellion site several years ago, but the story has been extensively rewritten & edited.
Hope you find a series or two worthy of some of your own New Year reading!
