Current Release: Wreck of the Nebula Dream
Describe your current release in two sentences?
2013 SFR Galaxy Award Winner. Wrecked, abandoned and behind enemy lines, this is no pleasure cruise!
What have you had to give up to pursue your writing career?
I still have a dayjob so pretty much what I give up are all my weekends and evenings! I don't have much time to read books by MY favorite authors either (but I sneak them in on my lunch hour LOL). Someday I'd love to be a full-time author but until then, just have to keep juggling the job and the dreams.
What are you working on?
I'm in edits on WARRIOR OF THE NILE, my next Ancient Egyptian paranormal romance, coming in September from Carina Press. I'm writing MAGIC OF THE NILE, which is a sequel to PRIESTESS OF THE NILE, published by Carina last year. I've also got two science fiction romances in various stages of being written and/or on submission.
What is your ultimate writing goal?
If I ever created a world that drew Readers in, and welcomed repeat visits the way Anne McCaffrey did with her Dragonriders, or Nalini Singh does with both her Psy/Changelings and the Archangels, I'd be content. World building and character creating on that level - priceless!
Do you have a comfort food? What is it?
Chocolate in pretty much any form, but especially an old recipe of my grandmother's called chocolate sticks. I also like a good strong cup of tea at times!
Where is your favorite place to write?
I inherited a darling desk from my great grandmother, so I sit there, in a corner of the bedroom, by the window, and type away on the laptop. And of course my two cats Keanu and Jake keep me company and try to "help"!
What career fields have you worked in?
My day job is actually as a business person supporting a major research center. If I say that I love Mars rovers, that might be a clue! I was also in retail for four years and loved that with a wild passion...in college I ran a plastics molding machine, so I've had some varied experiences for sure.
What are your plans for the next year? Any books you are looking forward to?
I look forward to anything from Nalini Singh - she keeps promising us Illium's story but when??? My personal plan to is to keep writing and submitting books. I just finished collaborating with a wonderful actor who narrated one of my works for an audio book. I'd love to do more of those with him! And I'll spend time with my grandson.
How was your road to publication?
I've been writing stories for myself since I was a little girl, like so many authors do. I only got very serious about trying to get published in the last few years, really working on the craft, losing my bad habits (show vs. tell, head hopping LOL). Carina plucked PRIESTESS OF THE NILE from their slush pile in 2011 - it was my first ever submission anywhere - and in January 2012, I was published. That was a dream come true for sure.
If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?
Hands down, Dragonriders of PERN. But I have requirements - I want a golden dragon and my very own bronze rider Weyrmate!
I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has read one of my books! I love feedback...you can always find me on twitter or on my blog...I'll keep revisiting my paranormal world of ancient Egypt and the far future of my science fiction romances as long as anyone else wants to go there with me LOL. Happy Reading!
