Current Release: Heaven Scent
Describe your current release in two sentences?
After watching her mother's endless suffering & death, nothing would keep Tarin Worthington from opening the first female medical college and becoming a doctor-not society's antiquated rules, nor the distracting Rafe Sutherland. Yes, he was a handsome, national hero bearing secrets-but she would not lose sight of her goals. What Tarin doesn't realize is that her mother has a few goals of her own.
Please describe your writing environment.
I sit in the corner and write at my kitchen table! It is a large, modern glass top with a bronze & black round base. My chair varies amongst the four that came with the table - I don't want to wear one out :) I have a bar to my left where I stack all of my notes and files. And I am close to the fridge for my Vitamin waters and snacks. My IPAD speaker is close by for those times when I want to write to music. I have great, fluorescent overhead lighting. And I have my Thor flash drive for my backups.
What are you working on?
I am polishing up a contemporary, romantic comedy set in a small, central Texas town. Lots of cowboys! I hope to have it out by the end of the year.
What do you feel blessed with?
My husband, my children, my friends and extended family. I also have a good, fulltime job close to home - my boss is terrific. I recently bought myself a new Camaro so I am very blessed to have that. :)
As far as my writing is concerned, I have many family members and friends supporting me. I could not do this without their encouragement. Not to mention the gift of writing that God has given me. I would not be here without Him.
What was your childhood ambition?
I always wanted to be a teacher. I looked up to my teachers in school - they always inspired me to work hard. Unfortunately, once I got out of high school, I was more concerned with making money and going out, than going to college. I did attend college later in life, but teaching was not my goal. I wanted to write.
What is your favorite TV show?
Once Upon a Time. Although Mr. Gold really ticked me off on the season finale. I do enjoy watching The Voice too. I love music.
What career fields have you worked in?
Special Events, Human Resources, Accounting, and Securities. I have also been an assistant in hotel management and hvac equipment sales.
I worked as an assistant to a wealthy family where I had to be ready for anything. I handled everything from their private airplane scheduling to their daughter's wedding planning, to political events and bank account reconciliation. I had to be versatile.
What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?
My plans are to promote Heaven Scent and to complete my romantic comedy. I will also be helping my daughter with wedding plans - she marries in the summer of 2013.
I have a TON of books on my to-be-read shelf. I hope to empty that thing by the end of August and start new. I can't say I am looking forward to just one. I just want to READ. :)
How was your road to publication?
Long and challenging. I have been studying writing for many, many years but I could never seem to write the type of books editors wanted. I was told by editors and agents my writing was always strong, but they didn't like my stories - they didn't know how to market them.
So, with the ease of self-publishing these days, I decided to take my out-of-the-box stories and publish them. I am so glad I did!
If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?
I would love to travel back to Regency England and live amongst the ton. I'd like to attend a few balls, have an elegant ball gown that cuts off my breathing and circulation, relax on some of the vast estates, and have a man court me properly. But I wouldn't want to stay - I like modern conveniences too much. Just for a visit!
If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?
I would want to live in Asgard - the home of Thor. It is a world of golden beauty with modern technology but old world culture. Where life is respected and men were real men. And they wore really cool clothes. :)
I want to thank those of you who stopped by to read a little about me. After all, it is the reader who makes a writer write, and I could not do this without you. I hope you will check in with me on my virtual book tour this month and pick up a copy of my new historical, Heaven Scent. It is my first of many novels, amongst many genres (ADD anyone?). I'd love to have your company along the way.
Be on the lookout for Flirting for Dim-Wits, my contemporary romantic comedy coming out later this year. It involves hot cowboys, a virgin princess, and bad pick up lines. Guaranteed to make you laugh - at least once. :)
See you on tour!
