Current Release: Blood, She Read

Describe your current release in two sentences?

Fitting into a new school is hard when you're dragged into a murder investigation because you're a psychic witch. And it's even harder when the hottie main suspect decides he wants to date you.

Please describe your writing environment.

I wish I could say I had a cozy little office with wall to wall bookcases, but, sadly, this is not the case. I work on any clean, available surface, whether that be my lap, my couch, or my dining room table.

What are you working on?

I am currently working on the sequel to BLOOD, SHE READ. I hope to finish it before Christmas 2012.

What do you feel blessed with?

I have a patient husband and two healthy children. I am also fortunate enough to have a permanent day job as a nurse. It is both a challenging and a rewarding profession and one I intend to continue with long after being published.

What was your childhood ambition?

To move out of my house and have my independence. What teenager doesn't want this? As a teen, I honestly had no clue what I wanted to do profession-wise. I kind of went with the flow, going to university because it was expected of me. I began with a business degree, then an HR diploma, and most recently, my BSc in Nursing. I spent a lot of money on education when I didn't really need to. Not that education is ever wasted. In retrospect, I wished I'd taken a year off to travel abroad and really figured out what I wanted before applying to school.

What is your favorite TV show?

I'm a huge Vampire Diaries and True Blood fan. I can't pick a favourite between the two.

What career fields have you worked in?

This is going to be a very long list. Lets see: fast food, retail, manufacturing, secretarial, human resources, communications, and nursing. Oh, and now I can add writing to the list!

What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?

I don't have big plans for the summer. I'm trying to write and work as much as I can. As for books, I'm looking forward to Touched by Cyn Balog and Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare.

How was your road to publication?

I want to say long, but I know it is probably short compared to many others. I began writing seriously about four or five years ago. I finished my first book almost a year later and submitted it to agents. It was hugely rejected. Looking back, I still love the story, but the writing needs so much work. I completed my second novel last year and began submitting it early this year. Two publishers offered to publish it and another two requested the full, but I accepted an offer before the others responded. I credit persistence to my being published as well as my writing group, Romance Writers of Atlantic Canada.

If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?

Gosh, I don't know. Probably the future. I'd like to see where the world will be in a hundred or two hundred years. Will we still be on this planet? Or on the moon? Or Mars?

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse novels. And I would become a vampire and marry Eric over and over again.

Thanks so much for reading! BLOOD, SHE READ comes out this fall, and I hope you'll add it to your 'To Be Read' pile. And don't forget to look for the sequel, which will hopefully release next year.
