Current Release: Murder Once Removed

Describe your current release in two sentences?

The main character, Jessica Curtis, is an investigative reporter who is asked to find out who killed her mentor at the paper. She can only do this by solving an earlier murder that the mentor was investigating - in other words, a murder once removed.

What are you working on?

I'm working on the second book in my series with this cast of characters. Thankfully, everyone who has read the book seems to really like them! The first book was set in the Santa Fe art scene and the next one is set in the Albuquerque theater scene. I mean one of our most talented native sons is Neil Patrick Harris.

Getting a book to market often takes a village. Who has helped you on the way?

My nephew has been the biggest help. He has edited the book and done much of the rewriting. So you could say he is my partner in crime. Also, the people at Amazon's CreateSpace and Kindle Direct have been extremely helpful in getting the publication off the ground.

Do you have a favorite or interesting reader meet moment?

A woman I met told me she had just read the book. She also told me that she's an avid reader of mysteries and always guesses the end about half-way through. She was sure she had my book pegged about then. Three-fourths of the way through, she was cursing the main character for being so stupid! Then she got to the end. Surprise, surprise. She had been wrong all along. I think she was a little miffed that I ruined her record!

What is your favorite way to procrastinate?

Coming up with a hundred things I have to do with my dogs: clip their nails, check their little ears for infection, apply flea and tick stuff, take them walking, start training sessions in the back yard, feed them dinner, give them "good dog" treats.

I love being with my 3 dogs and it always provides a good excuse to keep me from working when I don't feel like it.

The three best things I've heard about the book from readers and reviewers alike are:

(1) "I never guessed"

(2) "I love these characters, particularly Jessica, Do more books with her in them." I am.

(3) "The New Mexico locations of Albuquerque and Santa Fe are unique and happening right now". Think Breaking Bad.

The next book is "Miscue for Murder" mid 2014 release.
