Please tell us your latest news!

It's [A New Birth of Freedom: The Visitor] been getting very good reviews: check out the recent ones on Amazon.

If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?

I would have started writing it earlier. And since it's a time travel story, I'd just go back several months prior to starting it...and start it earlier.

Hmmm....of course if I did that then there would be no reason for me to go back in the first place....

Hmmmmm.....

Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?

Bram Stoker, Ambrose Bierce, Mark Twain, Susan Sontag, John Steinbeck, Charles Bukowski, Jack Kerouac, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill....

Because I like their writing! ;-)

Do you have a specific writing style?

I pay attention to the sound of the words when they appear in a sentence and the rhythm...otherwise, all writing is writing....

Do you see writing as a career?

Yup.

Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?

In a sense, I started writing this novel when I was in elementary school.. hundreds of months ago! I grew up watching "cowboy and Indian" movies, and came to feel the "Indian" got a raw deal - especially after seeing films like The Last Wagon, Broken Arrow and Run of the Arrow. I wondered "what if" some great chief would have been able to unite all of the Nations in North America to resist the Europeans. Well, out of that came my first novel, White Cloud. It was three pages long, single-spaced and one paragraph. I didn't know it then, but I was writing speculative fiction.

I had always imagined inserting myself into major historical events and playing out some role that would change history. Although the protagonist in A New Birth of Freedom, is not me, he's doing what I was doing in elementary school, and beyond.

Do you have any advice for other writers?

Same thing that everyone suggests.

Write -- the REWRITE -- a hundred times!

How does your family feel about having a writer in the family? Do they read your books?

Some do, some don't

The important thing is that we drink together!

What did you do before you became a writer? Do you write full time?

Before I wrote full time, I was a full time professor of philosophy...

What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?

I tell myself the story "in my head" over an over again, modifying and editing all the while. When I'm satisfied, I put in "on paper."

Do you have a favorite object that is pertinent to your writing? If so what is it and please describe it. (Pen, Coffee Cup, Pet, Blanket, Chair)

?? Computer??

Do you have a ritual when it comes to writing? Example..get coffee, blanket, paper, pen and a comfy place

of course...everyone does

A "game" of solitare [which I've invented for myself]

What main genre do you write in?

Science Fiction / Fantasy
