Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?
Raine is a pseudonym of someone who loves books. A self confessed bookaholic, I can't go into a book store without snagging something. One day after reading one too many books where I got tired of hearing the same thing just told differently, I decided to try my hand in writing. Once I opened the door, it was like I had all these voices screaming for attention, a really hunky muse telling me what to write and I was in heaven. :)
If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
Oh man, I would love to be Raven from Red Hot Magic. She is strong, tall (heck I am only 5 foot 2") and a bombshell. *grins* I think she is the strongest character I have written to date that wasn't like me at all. It was a challenge but I have heard great things on her and this Valentine treat.
What's your favorite genre to read?
Right now I am in the paranormal/fantasy genre. I love finding a great new author I never read and seeing their take on things. From JD Robb to PC Cast to Bertrice Small, Many authors make me sit up and take a deep breath!
Who or what influences you when you write?
My muse is a 6 foot god and he is a hard task master though lately, he is on vacation. :( I swear I don't know where he comes up with some ideas but I run with it and let it flow. :) Also depends on what music I am enthralled with, what movies I saw or reading. Everything can trigger a writing idea and I just hope it turns out ok.
What do you do on a typical writing day?
A typical writing day...I grab coffee, throw on the headphones and listen to Josh Groban belting out Italian songs or Andera Bouchelli and just pound out on the word doc. I never could write in a notebook, I find I am more creative just looking at a fresh Word doc and letting it go. :)
When you have writer's block how do you break free?
I take a break, watch movies, read something different, go for a walk and just relax and pray the muse isn't going to take a long vacation. :)
Please tell us what you have planned next?
I have 3 more books in the Devon Falls Magic Series coming out this year. Fiery Magic is a 4 th of July book, Haunting Magic is a Halloween story and Sticky Magic is a Christmas theme. Then I am working on a Fae fantasy 2 book story centered on a prophecy and then a comedy I am co-writing with a fellow Author friend, SJ Willing. Plus a fewmore down the line.
Tiny excerpt: Charmed Magic
Magically appearing in the foyer, he moved quietly and unhampered. If anyone looked right at him, all they would see is nothing but their treasured furniture and belongings. Tynan listened intently to try to find the cause of this call that carried him here. Something caused his eyes to widen as he spied a woman walking down the stairs. Tall, voluptuous and with the flame red hair that made it seem like a halo of flames danced around her head. With lips that were so full, he felt lust race thru his body like an out of control freight train. It was then he saw her violet eyes tinged with lashes so full, it was like seeing butterfly wings kiss her cheeks each time she closed her eyes. Mentally groaning with the desire she invoked, Tynan wondered what it was that drew him here and to her. With a rising passion he could barely keep in check, his gaze moved ever so slowly down taking in every aspect of the curvy compact body underneath the clothes, Tynan saw Hailey stand on the bottom of the stairs, her lower lip nibbled on by her teeth and he almost came from the erotic images of this lovely woman using those lips on his hardened cock and caressing him to a fever pitch! Seeing the uncertainty in her eyes, Tynan wondered what could be the cause of it when this breathtaking woman abruptly looked straight at him and almost before he could react, looked as if she saw a ghost.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself? -In general and in you're writing career
OH man.5 years I hope to be in a NY house and on book shelves all over. *knocks on wood*
What do you do for inspiration?
Play with my kids, spend time with my boyfriend and cherish the love we have together, watch movies, have an "adult" night with no kids, take walks and just watch the world around me.
Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven't yet? What type of book have you always wanted to write?
Science Fiction Romance. I would love to create worlds and aliens to explore. On the list to do but not even close to completing. :)
A Fantasy epic like Lord of the Rings or like PC Cast's Luna fantasy series. :)
What kind of research do you do for your books? Do you enjoy the research process?
No real research really. Just a general knowledge and I pray to god I don't have too much research to do later on.
Do deadlines help or hinder your muse?
OH GOD!!! I always dread deadlines but if I get my edits in time I can do them within a month. But otherwise I am obsessing over them and praying I get them in on time.
When did you first decide to submit your work? Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step.
My good friend, Skylar Sinclair, pushed and prodded me to submit a story to anthology and before I knew it I wrote 3 different versions. She picked the best one and before I could say OH MY GOD! I submitted it. Though it was rejected, I tweaked it and sent it in and was accepted by Mardi Gras.
What would you like to tell your readers?
They can contact me anytime either by email , firstname.lastname@example.org or my space page or blog. I love hearing from them or what they thought of my books.
What is the best advice you have ever received?
Write what you know and then write some more. Captivate your audience and write what you want to read. :)
Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I just go with the flow. Some days I write for hours, other days a minute here or there.
Do you belong to a critique group? If so, how does this help or hinder you?
Nope, I beta test on my Boyfriend and a few close trusted friends and then submit it if I feel happy with it.
What was your first published work and when was it published?
Red Hot Magic and it was published under Mardi Gras Publishing. It was published Feb. 10, 2007 and is garnering great reviews!!
How can readers find out more about you and your books?
I put up to date information on my website and My Space page. Plus in my bi monthly newsletter!
Who is your perfect hero? And why?
My perfect hero is flawed, where he tough when the situation calls for it and tender with his mate. No one is perfect and frankly I want my characters to have flaws to keep them from being boring. :)
Can you please give us a sneak peek at any of your upcoming books?
Charmed Magic is the next in Devon Falls Magic Series at Mardi Gras Publishing. It tells of a woman, soured on life as she watches her friends and family find love yet she can never find that special someone. In comes a magical egg that will lead her true soul mate to her. One tiny little problem...he is a fae prince and it is a big no-no to fall in love with a human! This is out March 31 st (fingers crossed as I am in major editing mode here) and I am really excited about this one!
Thank you Tammie and NOR for this opportunity.
