BLOOD SIN: Awakened by Blood 2, by Marie Treanor. Published by NAL - Signet Eclipse, 5th April 2011.

Even if you stand in the light, you can dwell in the dark.

Months after her dangerous encounter with vampire overlord Saloman, Scottish academic Elizabeth Silk is still trying to cope with both the demands of her ancestral bloodline-which marks her as a vampire hunter - and the overpowering desire she feels for the immortal she brought back from the grave. But she is not alone in her fascination with Saloman.

When Elizabeth tracks down a distant cousin from America, she learns he possesses an antique sword that has caught the interest of the Grand Master of the American hunters. It is the ancient and mystical sword of Saloman - a treasure of vast occult powers and a prize beyond measure to both vampires and humans. Now the race is on for possession of the sword.

Even as her enemies and allies shift their allegiances and battle for supremacy, Elizabeth must decide which will rule her own perilous fate: unwanted loyalty or unholy love.

Do you see writing as a career?

Definitely! Of course it's a slightly uncertain career without a guaranteed income, but since I began writing seriously, I've been lucky in having my husband to support me and our kids. Nowadays it's wonderful being able to contribute to the family income again, but I think I would always have found a way to write! As it is, I feel very privileged to be able to do what I love for a living, and I do strive always to improve.

Do you write full time? What did you do before you became a writer? Or Still do?

I do write full time now. Before that, I've been a researcher, an editorial assistant and a librarian, and like many authors, I just wrote in my spare time. But when my youngest child was born, I stopped working and now that she and her brothers are all at school, I can devote more time to the stories in my head :).

What main genre do you write in?

Paranormal / Urban Fantasy

Please describe your writing environment.

Depending on what's happening at the time, I write more or less anywhere - sitting room, bedroom, kitchen , wherever! But when I can, I prefer to write in a quiet room at the back of the house which is full of books and some of my favourite things that we've brought home from our travels. I have a small, antique desk just the right size for my laptop, positioned at the window so I can look out at the garden (and the rain, usually!).

Who has been your best supporter? How have they been there for you?

My husband! He puts up with my more or less 24/7 job with all the distractions that entails, an untidy house and an erratic income. He listens to my ideas - and puts me right when I get facts wrong! - and he's always really proud of my successes.

Did you pick the title for your book? If it has been changed please tell us about the process.

Well, I picked the title of the first book in the trilogy, BLOOD ON SILK, which has stayed the same. But orignally I had the word "Silk" (the surname of my heroine) in all the titles, including the series title. My editor felt that this wasn't really going to draw in vampire fans, so after a few brainstorming sessions - involving both of us and my agent! - we finally agreed on AWAKENED BY BLOOD as the series title, with the individual books being called BLOOD ON SILK, BLOOD SIN and BLOOD ETERNAL.

Do you have an interesting quirk?

Somtimes I think I'm all quirk, and can only hope it's interesting :).

Do you like to mix genres?

Oh yes, I love to! Paranormal Romance is great for that, because it can encompass so many other genres, not just various paranormal elements at once but others like suspense, time travel, fantasy, historical, futuristic... the possibilites are endless, and I really like that :).

What book are you reading now? What are your thoughts on it?

Lizzie T. Leaf's "Beyond Magic" - I've just started it, but so far it's fun and intriguing and makes me smile :).

What's your favorite drink?

Coffee for day time, red wine for evening. And champagne for celebrating :).

How did you choose your publisher? What was the process?

Well, I have several publishers: Samhain, Changeling Press, Ellora's Cave, The Wild Rose Press and NAL.

I chose Changeling, EC and TWRP from author friends' recommendations, Samhain because an editor I respected highly at a previous publisher moved there and asked me to submit. NAL was slightly different, because it happened through my agent. But in each case, I submitted some (or all) of a story and was fortunate enough to have it accepted!

Do you have an agent? If so who and please tell us about them.

Yes, I do! I'm very lucky to have the distinguished Robert Gottlieb of Trident Media as my agent. He has enormous experience and knowledge of the publishing industry, and has guided me through every stage of my ""New York"" experience :).

Thanks so much for having me at Night Owl! It's been great chatting, and I've enjoyed answering your interesting questions!
