The girls of Night Owl Romance are pleased that you have granted us an interview
We would love to get to know you
Would you please start by telling us a little about yourself?
Yes, hello everyone. I'm L. M. Gonzalez and I've been reading romance since I was in my teens. As I've evolved, shall we say, so have my reading tastes. And now my writing. I've also been writing stories since I graduated from high school. However, I've been seeking publication since 2001 when I joined the local chapter of RWA.
What's your favorite genre to read? I love romance, especially with heroines who think love has passed them by. I've also recently started reading cozy mysteries, along the lines of "Murder She Wrote" with J.B. Fletcher as amateur sleuths.
In 5 years, where do you see yourself? -In general and in you're writing career
That's 2012, right? Well. let me see. I'd like to say that one of my books (or more) will be on the NY Times Bestseller list. What writer wouldn't, huh? However, I would really, really, really like to be making a living from my writing - both from my books and articles. That's been my dream for years and years.
On a more personal level, I'd like my sons to be happy and healthy here on Earth, leading productive lives and realizing "their" dreams.
What do you do for inspiration?
I watch my favorite movie, LITTLE WOMEN, both the old version with June Allyson as Jo March and the newer version with Wynona Ryder as Jo. I also read the submission guidelines for houses that I'd like to be published with, get ideas for stories from what they want and from the books they publish.
What kind of research do you do for your books? Do you enjoy the research process?
I love the research process and I always find more than I need. I have a file drawerful of research I've done for various things. For my current book, TOO LATE FOR ROMANCE, I researched roses. I've never grown roses in my life. If given half a chance, I can kill an ivy! It was fun to find out about roses. I used the Internet. For a book I'm working on next, I interviewed a friend of mine who owns a flower shop since my heroine will own one.
Do deadlines help or hinder your muse?
Deadlines definitely help me. I think I write better with a deadline looming over me. If I don't have a deadline, I find it very hard to stay focused.
What would you like to tell your readers?
I hope you enjoy my first book. I hope you take away the joy I felt in writing Matt's and Gloria's story. And always remember that it's never too late for love.
Do you belong to a critique group? If so, how does this help or hinder you?
Yes, I belong to a critique group and it has helped me tremendously. When I'm writing a story, I don't realize what and how I've written it until someone else reads it aloud. Suggestions from other writers help me to write a better story. Just make sure that any critique group you join understands what you write and is formed of people who will give constructive criticism.
What was your first published work and when was it published?
My first book is TOO LATE FOR ROMANCE? and will be released Dec. 28, 2007 by The Wild Rose Press in e-book format and in Jun 2008, in print.
How can readers find out more about you and your books?
Thank you for this opportunity!
