Current Release: The Stolen Chalice

Describe your current release in two sentences?

An international thriller filled with high style and romance about stolen art and a terrorist plot. Dashing archaeologist John Sinclair and his girlfriend oceanographer Cordelia Stapleton travel through New York, London, Scotland, Venice and Egypt in search of a stolen chalice.

Please describe your writing environment.

I am a former CNN reporter and can write anywhere. Most of the time I write on a laptop in whatever city I am in. Frequently I travel by boat - ocean liners like the Queen Victoria or Queen Mary 2, or my own boat in New England, and I find I do a lot of writing when sailing. It is very peaceful and quiet.

What are you working on?

I am working on the third in the John Sinclair international thrill series. The sequel to THE EXPLORER'S CODE and THE STOLEN CHALICE.

What do you feel blessed with?

I am so blessed to have both my sons - Will (24) and Beau (22). As a single mom, they are so dear to me. They are everything.

What was your childhood ambition?

When I was very young I wanted to be a ballerina - but then I hit six feet tall in the eighth grade! I have always been a writer - it is almost like breathing to me. I wrote many short stories in gradeschool and high school. After becoming a journalist I wrote a new story every day. But I never planned on becomeing a writer. It just happened.

What is your favorite TV show?

Any kind of news - I don't watch too much entertainment television. Sometimes MasterPiece Theater on PBS

What career fields have you worked in?

I was a CNN journalist for 24 years before trying my hand at writing a novel. In some ways it is the same, I include international locations and thriller plot lines in my novels, not very different from what we see on TV news.

What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?

I will spend most of the summer on my boat - writing the next Sinclair novel. In the fall I will head to the Middle East for research on my next book.

How was your road to publication?

After the high octane world of TV news, I had to adjust to the slower pace of publishing. It took some getting used to. From start to finish my books take about a year. That is an eternity for me.

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

I have always loved late Victoria/Edwardian era described by Conan Doyle in his Sherlock Holmes series. The world of science was very active at that time, and you had great exploration and breakthroughs in many scientific fields. It seems to be a romantic time also, with great grace and style.

The next Sinclair novel will revive my character Charles Bonnard from THE EXPLORER'S CODE and will include volcanoes. Stay tuned!
