Please tell us your latest news!
My first novel SOUL BORN, an epic fantasy, will be released in late 2010. Soul Born is book one in a three book series, that runs over 110,000 words. The cover was painted by award winning artist Dan Dos Santos.
If you had to do it all over again, would you change anything in your latest book?
SOUL BORN was a work in progress over many years, and must have reached its 12th draft before I sent it to the publisher. I am a perfectionist and if given the chance to re-read and edit any of my stories or novels I will, and never stop tweaking. I felt good about its final draft so I am very happy with the results.
Who is your favorite author and what is it that really strikes you about their work?
I cannot name one author, but I am a big fan of Joss Whedon and Frank Miller. Both are not exactly novelists, but I very much enjoy the way they develop their characters.
Do you have a specific writing style?
I consider myself a multi-genre writer with an emphasis on characters.
Do you see writing as a career?
I consider it an outlet for my creativity and I see it as a fun and exciting process. I do apply myself to my writing as if it was a career, and one day I hope that it will be my sole focus.
Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
When I was in high school I wanted to be a comic book inker, and submitted my work to many of the major companies. When the comic book industry took a hit, I realized my dreams may not come to fruition. I went to art school and never seemed to find an outlet that fulfilled my creative thirst. When I started writing it all clicked. I was finally able to channel all the artistic energy I had into something that felt right.
Do you have any advice for other writers?
Write every day. Set word count goals and try your hardest to meet them.
What did you do before you became a writer? Do you write full time?
I was/still am an IT Professional and a Graphic Artist. At the moment I write full time.
What is your writing process? Do you outline, fly by the seat of your pants or a combination of both?
I tend to outline short stories so I will not go over word count limitations. When I am writing a novel I just let it flow. If I hit a mental road block I might try jotting down notes in a very casual outline sense, just to work through whatever is holding me back. When a book is done, I will write a chapter by chapter summary for agents and publishers.
Do you have a favorite object that is pertinent to your writing? If so what is it and please describe it. (Pen, Coffee Cup, Pet, Blanket, Chair)
MP3 player and a 2.1 speaker set up.
Do you have a ritual when it comes to writing? Example..get coffee, blanket, paper, pen and a comfy place
I write in my home office while listening to music. Depending on my mood it could be some fun old 80's music, or loud hard core metal. From time to time I might be found listening to a new age band called Delerium.
What main genre do you write in?
Science Fiction / Fantasy, Paranormal / Urban Fantasy
