Current Release: Killer in Wolf's Clothing & The Viking's Witch

Describe your current release in two sentences?

I just had two books published in the last two weeks. Killer in Wolf’s Clothing (Amber Quill Press) is an erotic gay paranormal, and The Viking’s Witch (Medallion Press) is a traditional historical romance with paranormal elements.

Please describe your writing environment.

My writing environment is wherever I happen to be at the moment. I write all of my books and short stories in longhand, so when I’m writing I can take the pen and paper outside in the backyard, to the beach, or anywhere. When I write indoors I usually have soft music playing in the background.

What are you working on?

Right now I’m revising a historical romance set in Pennsylvania Colony. The heroine is an Irish indentured servant named Shauna who falls in love with her master’s son. I’m hoping it will be my first release of 2013. I’m also contemplating story ideas for another paranormal romance, and a gay historical/fantasy.

What do you feel blessed with?

I feel very blessed to have good health, a nice home, friends and family nearby, and the world’s most wonderful husband! Robert always supports my writing, encourages me when I want to give up, and makes sure that I don’t get too involved in the writing world and forget to go out and have fun.

What was your childhood ambition?

I always wanted to be a published author. (Go figure!) I remember reading horror anthologies in high school and telling my friends that one day I’ll have my short stories published in books for everyone to read. I’m happy to say that several of my horror stories were chosen for various anthologies.

What is your favorite TV show?

Although I write romances, I don’t watch romantic-themed shows. I’ve been a big fan of Supernatural since the show aired, and now I’m catching up on Grimm. I also watch Criminal Minds and The Dead Files.

What career fields have you worked in?

Ironically enough, most of my jobs have been in publishing. I’ve worked for a few non-fiction book publishers (in various roles) and also for an advertising agency.

What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?

My husband and I recently got back from a summer vacation to Yellowstone. It was a great trip! I’m way behind on my reading, so I plan on catching up on the books I have when I can. When I’m writing a book I don’t read anything else; and when I’m reading, I don’t write.

How was your road to publication?

I started out writing short horror fiction and one day I came across a copy of The Sun and read a “10-Minute Love Story.” I thought, “I can write that.” So I did. The editor bought the first story I sent, and from then on I was a regular romance author. Later, The Sun began publishing science fiction stories, so I wrote those, too.

My romance novel career started when I entered the Amber Quill Press erotic romance contest. I wrote and submitted three novellas – and they bought all three! From then on I started writing steamy romances for them in different genres – paranormal, historical, fantasy, contemporary, and gay. Killer in Wolf’s Clothing is my fourteenth Amber Quill Press title and my second gay romance. I followed the traditional route with The Viking’s Witch. I submitted the query, synopsis, and manuscript to Medallion Press, and they contracted me for the book.

If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?

I like history, so it’s hard to pick just one place to visit. First, I’d go back to ancient Egypt and travel to the temples and pyramids. It would be great to see everything when it was painted and decorated. Then I’d visit the British Isles and stay in a castle and get a feel for the Medieval life. Finally, I’d head off to an Old West town (probably Deadwood!) and see what life was really like back then.

Thanks for letting me share my thoughts with everyone. I hope readers will check out my two new books. I invite everyone to visit my website to read news, excerpts, interviews, reviews, and sign up for my newsletter, Kelli’s Quill. Happy reading,
Kelli
