Current Release: Dragon Temptation - 1NS story

Describe your current release in two sentences?

Another 1NS story with paranormal, urban fantasy and interracial couple. Yong longs for a romance of his own, now that his twin is marrying the only woman he has ever been with.

What have you had to give up to pursue your writing career?

I haven't given up anything yet, but my goal and dream is to become a full time author and relinquish my current career of 25 years. I am grateful I have managed to find a balance in my home life, with a loving and supportive husband who encourages my writing and two beautiful children. I make the time when the house is settled to write, but for now, it's merely a start, there are so many stories and still not enough time to complete them. That, will soon change, (fingers crossed) :-)

What are you working on?

I have several WIP, I am finishing my 8th story in the 1Night Stand series with Decadent Publishing, it's the third in my 1NS sub-series: Double Dragon Seduction. I also have a few other paranormal stories in progress, one about angels, a 12 part urban fantasy series outlined, and a new outline for my first Sci-Fi Urban fantasy, that feels like an epic story I can't wait to complete. That doesn't even speak to the first three books I wrote that I will be re-writing :-)

What is your ultimate writing goal?

To be a prolific, full time author, bringing epic stories to readers around the world. I want to bring some of my stories to the big screen, and will be developing my screen writing skills along the way. Producing these films would be an extraordinary honor.

Do you have a comfort food? What is it?

Hmmm, that's difficult to narrow down, lol. I love my cup of tea, in the morning, at night when I'm writing, when I'm sitting on my swing under my cedar tree. But for food, I can't say I'm overly original. I'm a sucker for delectable cheesecake, cheesy lasagna and of course anything chocolate. :-)

Where is your favorite place to write?

My home is my castle. I love to write while sitting in my lounge chair beside the fireplace with my feet up, listening to soft, classical music with candlelight dancing around the room. My writing time is stolen moments, when my family is settled for the night, the house is quiet and there are no distractions.

What career fields have you worked in?

I have been employed in the child welfare field for 25 years as a youth counselor, and certified crisis intervention trainer. Supporting youth with emotional, behavioral and developmental challenges, and working with caregivers to help them meet these children's needs. I trained for this career at 18, and stayed in all this time, always upgrading. In my teens, of course, I had the beginner jobs in fast food restaurants and retail stores.

What are your plans for the next year? Any books you are looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to getting all of my current WIP completed and submitted. Being a prolific author can have its advantages, but also its downfalls. I prefer to be organized and complete one project at a time, but sometimes, my muse doesn't understand this, and feeds me story lines, plots, twists and turns that I cannot ignore, or they may disappear never to be heard from again.

How was your road to publication?

Like any novice, I had a great deal to learn, but had to work through my enthusiasm to start my writing career first. I joined an RWA group and learned so much, which accelerated my writing career and met some amazing people. Beginning the mad dash of submissions to agents and publishers, and getting one rejection after another, I had a stroke of luck, when an editor solicited me. I sold two stories with my first publisher, but still didn't know enough of the industry to really put myself out there. Books don't sell themselves, writing them, is the small work, networking and promoting is a whole job in itself, so is learning to accept feedback and letting go of old habits that didn't make my work shine, but embracing new rules to writing and learning what makes the story smooth, captivating and complete. This wasn't something I was fully aware of until after a few years of being published. Starting my own radio show and interviewing on air, helped get me out there more. Once I was settled in with my current publisher, Decadent Publishing, and was connected to my editor, and senior and line editors, the real learning began. I am a much better writer for it, and realize I still have so much more to learn about finely crafting my stories. I am thankful for the support and encouragement I have received from Decadent that is so crucial to one's motivation to write.

If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?

Wow, that's a fantastic question...and very thought provoking: if it were a one time deal, it would be tough to choose, but if it were more than one, I would travel back to meet people that have passed with untimely deaths, people that made huge contributions to society. Cultural icons that have accomplished so much in such a short life. I would want the chance to meet people that made our society a better place and still had more to offer.

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

There are so many to choose from. Some days, I would love nothing more to be in the worlds created by J.R.R. Tolkien, the world of the Hobbit and Lord of The Rings, meet the kings and guardians of such sacred worlds. Other days, I would love to live in the times of King Author, with dragons and knights, swords and magic. I do have to say, I have a weakness for the vampire world created by Stephenie Meyer, I am an avid fan of the Twilight Series, and the prospect of being torn between Edward and Jacob, I could live with *evil grin.*

Thank you for these terrific questions, and to the readers; without you, a writer has no real purpose.

Keep your eyes open for my new release "Tantric Storm" Coming in a few weeks from the 1Night Stand Series with Decadent Publishing.

Happy Reading,
Kali Willows
