Current Release: The Principal’s Office, Book 3 in the DeKnight trilogy

Describe your current release in two sentences?

Single mother of two teenage sons, Rachel Delaney is happy with her life and her job, except for the lack of a strong male body to help her make it through the occasional lonely night, no strings attached. Enter Rand, a mysterious stranger, who’s absolutely perfect, until Rachel finds their lives intersect in the principal’s office

Do you have a favorite time of the day? If so when and why

I love mornings the best. I take my 3.5 mile speedwalk just as the sun is rising. The colors are so beautiful as the sun rises over the mountains, and it’s the perfect way to start the day.

What is the one thing you do not want to live without?

My bathtub! I love my evening baths where I do my reading. It’s the perfect way to end the day! I couldn’t live in a house that had only a shower and no bathtub!

Please describe your writing environment.

My office looks out onto my atrium garden so that while I’m surrounded by books and business machines, I can also gaze at all my pretty camellias, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and azaleas. It’s gorgeous in the spring when everything is blooming.

What are you working on?

I’m currently working on the second book in my West Coast series, Submitting to the Boss. The first book was Revenge Sex.

What career fields have you worked in?

I worked as an accountant in a manufacturing environment for both small and large companies. The firm I created in the DeKnight trilogy, of which The Principal’s Office is the third book, was based on a small firm I worked for run by a husband and wife team. The company I created in my West Coast series is based on another manufacturing firm I worked for. Of course, I made up all the sexual hijinks going on!

How do you mesh your personal and professional life?

Very easily. Even my vacations are all writing vacations! When I went to Las Vegas with my mom and sister, I used the Las Vegas setting in The Principal’s Office. When we had a family reunion in Lake Tahoe, I included that setting in my book, Kinky Neighbors. Sedona, Arizona was featured in Hers for the Evening. I love writing about places that I travel to.

How was your road to publication? Have you every had to deal with rejection letters?

My road to publication was long. I’d written several novels before I was published, but I was very persistent. And I could wallpaper my office with all the rejection letters! My Max Starr paranormal mystery series was never accepted by a major publisher, so I went with a small press. Now I’m publishing it myself and finding the series to be highly successful. My advice to unpublished writers is never give up!

What has been the best way for you to engage readers? Face to Face / Chatting Online / Twitter / Facebook / Blogging

I’ve found Facebook to work best for me. I’ve made lots of new friends, chatted with fans, and have been able to keep fans updated on new releases. The second best way has been my blog, jasminehaynes.blogspot.com, where I give readers free reads of my books. That has been very successful, and I’m going to be starting a new free read soon.

What is the best thing about being an author?

I love to make up stories, and now I can do that all day long and get paid for it! Not to mention the short commute (down my hallway) and editing in the bathtub!

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

I’d love to live in the world Lisa Kleypas creates with her historical novels. It’s so romantic and the men are so totally male. I love her stories.

In addition to the DeKnight trilogy, I’m the author of the Max Starr paranormal mystery series and I also write humorous romantic suspense as Jennifer Skully. Readers can visit my blog, jasminehaynes.blogspot.com, for free reads, and my website, jasminehaynes.com, for excerpts and info on new releases. Thanks so much for having me at Night Owl!
