Current Release: Conflicting Hearts

Describe your current release in two sentences?

Two lovers, with different desires, collide in a tale of one woman's struggle to overcome the effects of childhood sexual abuse.

What have you had to give up to pursue your writing career?

Frankly, I've given up nothing to pursue my career, but gained everything in return. Writing has always been a driving force in my life. Since I'm single and have no children at home, the only one who receives any neglect might be Whiskers, my cat. I'm sure he will tell you he's given up much while watching me play with my characters rather than petting him. Other than that, I'm quite happy.

What are you working on?

Currently, I'm brewing a few more stories in the contemporary genre. I also write historical fiction/historical romance under my real name. There are two books in process at that end.

What is your ultimate writing goal?

My ultimate goal in writing is to tell stories that people can relate to in their hearts. I tend to write to elicit emotion, and it seems that happens often - so my readers tell me. Like any other author I'd like great sales, but I'm not necessarily looking for great fame.

Do you have a comfort food? What is it?

Chocolate, what else? Mainly on the dark side, but then I like white too. What a contradiction!

Where is your favorite place to write?

In my spare bedroom. I have it set up as my office. It's messy, but I blame it on my muse who refuses to dust.

What career fields have you worked in?

My early career field was secretarial. I've also been a business owner, offering transcription, for over ten years. Most recently, I landed in the legal field as a senior paralegal.

What are your plans for the next year? Any books you are looking forward to?

My plans are to continue writing, of course. I have a series that needs the last book in a trilogy finished. That is my main goal. Afterward, I think I'm going to continue to focus upon the contemporary romance genre for a few years. My next book will be my seventh publication under both pen names.

How was your road to publication?

My road to publication came from the sweat of my brow. I own my own publishing imprint. My first two books went through a service. When I was tired of giving them a portion of my royalties, I learned the entire process of publishing on my own. At the moment, I'm a true independent publisher from story concept all the way through holding a printed book in my hand. I use professionals to release quality work, from cover design to editing. It's given me a deeper appreciation knowing how the publishing industry really works besides just writing.

If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?

Probably the Victorian Era in England. Though I don't think I'd like the backward medical ideas, I know on the flip side I would love the fashions. In addition, I often wonder what society would be like without technology. Can you imagine talking to another person and having a real conversation besides text messages or email? What would you do at night with no TV or computers? Get to know people? I would love to have a conversation with a man in 19th century clothing, who is not dressed in a tee-shirt and jeans.

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

Oh, that's a tough one. I think anything written by Jane Austen would be a safe place to jump into, as long as Mr. Darcy is around.

My latest release, Conflicting Hearts, deals with a difficult subject. It's actually my true-life experience as a little girl woven into a fiction world. It's a story of two lovers, with different desires, who collide in a tale of one woman's struggle to overcome the effects of childhood sexual abuse.

Thank you for letting me share my thoughts! Keep reading! It's the place where fantasy soothes reality.
