Current Release: Clutch - I Am Just Junco, #1

Describe your current release in two sentences?

19 year old Junco Coot is the most foul-mouthed, wildly unpredictable and ruthless sniper the Rural Republic has ever trained. But when her father’s death sparks a trip into forbidden places, she triggers events that will change everything she knows to be true.

Please describe your writing environment.

I write in my home office which features a large u-shaped desk that I drooled over for more than a year before finally taking the plunge and purchasing as a Christmas gift to myself last year. Although I am in the basement I do have a nice big window and share my office with my ringneck parrot who chats me up all day long when I’m writing.

What are you working on?

Right now I am working on the fourth book of the I Am Just Junco series. I plan on releasing this book in mid 2013 - shooting for April.

What do you feel blessed with?

I am blessed with a great family, healthy kids, and the freedom to work from home about 80% of the time.

What was your childhood ambition?

My childhood ambition was to be a thoroughbred horse trainer! I didn’t make it, but I did get a B.S. in equine science, so I feel I came pretty close.

What is your favorite TV show?

True Blood! I've been a fan since Day One.

What career fields have you worked in?

Cashier | Barn worker | Tow truck dispatcher | Dental assistant | Research assistant | Hog farm inspector (I still do this!!) | Writer | Business owner

What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?

My son is looking forward to the final Artemis Fowl book this summer, but I am seriously waiting for the next Song of Ice and Fire book by George R. R. Martin. I need to know what Arya's up to!

How was your road to publication?

I started self-publishing non-fiction science books several years ago and have since grown a small business called Simple Schooling. After finishing some projects and gaining some extra time, I thought I’d finally write the book I'd been thinking about for years. I’m a fast and prolific writer, so I wrote the first three "I am Just Junco" books in six months. I always thought I’d be capable of self-publishing my fiction just like I do non-fiction, but didn’t really jump on board until the Kindle craze of 2011. I knew then that I had the experience to make my books every bit as good as any traditionally published book on the market. I hired artists to make custom covers and a fabulous editor to check my work. I couldn’t be happier with the final products and the experience it gave me.

If you could time travel, where would you travel to and why?

I’d time travel as far into the future of human existence as is allowed! I can’t stand the thought of dying and not knowing everything there is to know about the universe – it keeps me up at night! :)

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

Richard K. Morgan's Takeshi Kovacs world of body hopping sleeved Envoy Corp soldiers! I love the Takeshi Kovacs books - I read them all the time. Sometimes I just pick up one of the books, open it to a random page, and start reading.

Thanks so much for taking the time to read about me and I hope you pick up CLUTCH – the first of the I Am Just Junco books. If you’re a fan of strong-willed women in science fiction I think you’ll like her. The second book is FLEDGE and the third book is FLIGHT. Look for the fourth book in the series, RANGE, in April of 2013.
