The girls of Night Owl Romance are pleased that you have granted us an interview
We would love to get to know you
Could you please start by telling us a little about yourself?
Hi hun! I'm D.J. Carrington. I love to write. I'm from the Northwest. I love food, men, books, cloths, and lost of other stuff (and not necessarily in that order. Wink!).
If you could be one of your characters - Who would you be? And why?
If I could be one of my characters, I would Madison from Sight Unseen. She is brilliant, fun and gorgeous. She is such a giving and loving person. She knows and loves how shi is. In the end, she gets EVERYTHING she deserves.
What's your favorite genre to read?
I'm a sucker for a good romance novel.
Who or what influences you when you write?
Mae West has always been a huge inspiration for me. I love the fact that she was able to go over the top and still command so much from both men and women. She was crazy and fabulous.
Other inspirations (but not limited to).
Betty Boop - who wouldn't want to look like her? Barbie - because that chick reinvents herself more than Madonna Kamora Lee - enough said Martha Steward - she scares me into loving her
"Those who are easily shocked should be shocked more often." -Mae West
What do you do on a typical writing day?
LOL, practice first, write second. Kick everyone out of my house. If I'm in a driving mood, I go for a ride with my tape recorder. Whichever works.
When you have writer's block how do you break free?
I stop writing. Some people can push through and create a lot of great stuff. If I try to force myself to write, it all ends up on the cutting room floor. So I go do something that is worthy of writing about. Lol.
Please tell us what you have planned next?
Well, I am working on getting my book-signing schedule together. If you check out my website, www.djcarrington.com, or, visit my publishers website at www.cacoethespublishing.com, you can find out about all of my upcoming signings, chats and other fun stuff!
In 5 years, where do you see yourself? In general and in you're writing career.
In 5 years, I see myself on a much-deserved vacation! Lol.
Who is your perfect hero? And why?
Yummy! My favorite hero. That is so hard to narrow it down! Love the tall, muscular type. The ones with a lot of attitude, but have soft hearts. Must be sexy to be a hero!
Will Smith, Hugh Jackman, Morris Chestnut, George Clooney, Christian Bale
What do you do for inspiration?
If I told you that, I think I'd be arrested in a few counties. (wink) Is there a genre of book you would like to write but haven't yet?
I'd love to write a really good Who Done It. What kind of research do you do for your books? Do you enjoy the research process?
I have a little black book with hearts and stars beside the names. I use all the names with 3 stars for research purposes only. (Scouts honor!) Do deadlines help or hinder your muse?
HINDER. Why do they keep pressuring me?!
When did you first decide to submit your work? Please, tell us what or who encouraged you to take this big step.
A girlfriend of mine from college started a publishing company. I felt comfortable sending it over, so I did. The rest is history. What would you like to tell your readers?
I want to say thank you, for even being interested in my work. I have some serious, true blue readers. My website has been down for months, but they find a way to stay in contact with me. I love you all. I can't wait to get out on the road and meet each and every one of you! Seriously! I dream about packing Madison Square Garden for a book signing. Lol. We could soooo do it! What is the best and worst advice you have ever received?
Best Advise: Don't be Scared
Worst Advise: Look Before you leap. (Who the hell wants to look before they leap? Have you ever stared down a tall building or a canyon? What moron thought of this? I'll tell you who. It was some jackass who has never been elevated off the ground, or has never had a good adventure! Thanks a lot. Jerk!) Do you outline your books or just start writing?
I do a rough outline, and then I go in the complete opposite direction. Do you belong to a critique group? If so, how does this help or hinder you?
It's a small, private group. (There are only two of us). Trust me, he gives good Verb. Giggle. Very helpful.
What was your first published work and when was it published?
My first novel will be out September 15, 2008. The Way It Should Be. You can pre-order a copy at a discounted price only at www.cacoethespublishing.com or, visit my myspace page. A portion of the proceeds from every sale will go to D.A.S.H. Center for Performing Arts. They do fabulous work with the youth in the community.
What would be the best way for readers contact you? Do you have a website? Email address? MySpace site? Blog? Message Board? Group?
How can readers find out more about you and your books?
Thank you so much for taking the time out to interview me. I truly appreciate it.
XOXO D.J. Carrington
