Current Release: Blood Before Sunrise

Describe your current release in two sentences?

For months, Darian and her Shaede guardian, Raif, have searched for the Oracle who attempted to overthrow the Shaede Nation—and kill Darian in the bargain. But now that they’ve finally found the half-crazed Oracle, they are granted a possibility too painful for Raif to imagine and too enticing for Darian to ignore.

Please describe your writing environment.

I have a super tiny house, so my writing space is in my kitchen. My laptop is set up on the kitchen table and I have several notebooks and a day planner spread over most of the space. I'm hoping someday the hubs will build me a separate writing cave. But until then, I can hang out in the kitchen.

What are you working on?

Right now, I'm working on a novella in the Shaede Assassin series. It will take place between books two and three and is told from Tyler's perspective. I'm having a lot of fun with it so far!

What do you feel blessed with?

I'm blessed with a very supportive family. Everyone in my family has been so encouraging of my writing endeavors and supports me every step of the way.

What was your childhood ambition?

I wanted to be an actress when I was a kid. But I'm just a little too introverted for theater, so writing is the perfect profession for me. I sort of get to be an actress, I'm just playing out the scenes in my mind rather than in front of an audience.

What is your favorite TV show?

I have so many! I'm going to have to narrow it down to two: Game of Thrones and Sons of Anarchy. Both have terrific actors and amazing writing.

What career fields have you worked in?

I've worked in retail at a clothing store, a daycare, and I was a teacher's aide at the local elementary school. I was in charge of classified ads at a newspaper and a receptionist at a garbage company. I've laid tile and hauled job supplies while working as a masonry assistant and I've also coached high school volleyball. I definitely have an eclectic set of job skills! LOL!

What are your plans for the summer? Any books you are looking forward to?

I've been so busy this summer, I haven't had much time to enjoy it! I'm hoping to hang out at the lake as much as possible. My TBR pile is growing by the day. Right now, I have ONCE BURNED by Jeaniene Frost and GRAVE MEMORY by Kalayna Price sitting on my nightstand. I can't wait to read them!

How was your road to publication?

A little bumpy, but well worth the trip. The first book I ever queried crashed and burned. So, I wrote another book and just let it sit. Then, I wrote Shaedes of Gray. I queried for about four months and received a lot of rejections. I revised the manuscript and sent out a new batch of queries. Four months later, I had an offer of representation from my awesome agent. We worked on the book for a couple more months and sent it out to publishers. It took about five months before we had an offer. I think with all of my projects combined, I've been rejected about 300 times. But I truly believe that perseverance pays off. If you love to write, write. It only takes one "yes."

If you could live in a world created by an author, which book / world would you jump into?

I think I'd like to live in the Immortals After Dark world created by Kresley Cole! She has such a vast cast of supernatural creatures and all of her characters have such dynamic personalities. I think I'd like to be one of her Valkyrie. They're awesome!!
