Current Release: THE DETAINEE

Describe your current release by starting out with "In a world".

In a world where the State itself has gone broke, where all social benefits have been withdrawn, ageing 'Big Guy' Clancy is expelled with the rest of society's waste to live on Garbage Island, where they are imprisoned, terrorised, and occasionally hunted. No situation could seem more grim - but one day, Clancy discovers someone who gives him hope, a reason to fight back ... and even more. A tale of hope and redemption.

What are you working on?

The final book of the Detainee Trilogy, ominously, and accurately, entitled IN CONSTANT FEAR. I don't really want to say anymore - I have a fear of jinxing it - other than I'm very happy.

Getting a book to market often takes a village. Who has helped you on the way?

That would be a very long list. Those who have stood by me, kept the faith. Probably starting with my mother who must've been so tempted sometimes to use the immortal phrase, 'Why don't you get a proper job?' - this has been a long road. Of course I'm very grateful to my publisher and agent, friends who sat and listened to story ideas, and yes, occasionally tales of woe. Most times in life people come up better than you thought, just occasionally the opposite ... But really, it's been more of a town than a village.

Do you have a favorite or interesting reader meet moment?

Not yet. It seems utterly banal, I know, but I'm waiting for that day when I'm on the Metro, a plane, the beach, whatever, and I see someone reading THE DETAINEE. I may embarrass myself - and probably them, too.

What is your favorite way to procrastinate?

Being at times a terrible procrastinator, I think I've learned to loathe them all. It drives me crazy. To turn the question on its head, I find the best way to solve procrastination is a good walk. Somewhere, usually, in the first fifteen minutes, everything becomes much clearer.

I'd just like to thank all those people who have bought the book. To be honest, I still can't believe it. People want to read MY book! Are you kidding me? It's almost something magical.

Book 2, 'INTO THE FIRE', is launched in the UK by Jo Fletcher Books on July 3rd, 2014
