Hi Nicola! Thanks for visiting with me and the Night Owl Reviews readers. Please tell us about "Degree of Resistance".

Set on a post-apocalyptic West Coast, the book follows rogue tech Evie Contreras and her attempt to rescue the only man she's ever loved, Ben Drake, from being enslaved as a cyborg. To do this, she must cut a deal with a shadowy group known as Rubicon; what Evie doesn't know is that rescuing Ben is only the first step in a desperate effort to save all life on Earth.

At what point did you know you wanted to publish a book?

That's a bit complicated. I've always been a writer since I was a kid, but I pretty much stuck to short stories until 2013 when I finally managed to complete a full-length novel *and* send it in to a publisher. That was Storm Season (Olympic Cove 1) with Evernight Publishing, and I haven't looked back since.

Is your home a place of order or chaos?

*looks around* Chaos, definitely. I have five cats and an absent-minded engineer husband. Order is something I try to impose on this place occasionally, but entropy usually wins.

What genres do you write in and what inspired you to write in these genres?

I write mainly in SF, fantasy, and paranormal romance. I love working in these genres because they're the literature of the possible -- you aren't restrained by the laws of physics or tedious "reality." Also, hunky cyborgs, mermen, and shifters are really hot.

What is our favorite drink?

Non-alcoholic, Coke Zero. Alcoholic, absinthe (which makes me sound like such an effete snob, but I just really like the taste).

What is your writing place like?

I tend to work in the front room of our house that doubles as a library. I usually have at least two cats in here with me at all times, which can make things ... challenging. Yes, let's call it challenging. But I also love beings surrounded by books, and I have a lovely lap desk and super comfortable wing chair that doubles as a recliner, so those make it very easy for me to write.

What's next for you as an author?

Next up on the writing deck is my historical erotic romance Behind the Iron Cross, set in Weimar Republic-era Berlin. It's my first historical, and I got to do some research at the British Library on it, which was a ball.

It's been great chatting with you.

Thanks so much to NOR and everyone who reads my work. You're the reason why I tell stories for a living, and each and every one of you is in the will. *mwah*
