What's your book about?
Charlie Sykes takes everything and everyone at face value—and believes life would be a lot easier if everyone else did, too. Aussie Jace Knight, international hotelier and purported playboy, has never met anyone like the absurdly literal and beautiful American who applies for his personal assistant position. The trouble is, how do you pursue a woman whose definition of flirting comes straight out of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary? That, and he’s not the only one after Charlie. Seems Mr. Knight may not be a reformed criminal after all. Soon, Charlie’s immersed in a whirlwind of international espionage that takes her from the hip streets of Sydney to the majestic Great Barrier Reef and the wild, desolate outback. A dangerous trap’s being set, but how will Charlie protect herself and prevent a tragic betrayal, when she can’t even sort out what her heart’s telling her?
What should readers expect from you titles?
Thrilling life- and love-altering journeys featuring fast-paced and unpredictable plots, and writing so realistic and sexy it’s utterly compulsive.
What books have you analyzed to help grow yourself as an author?
The funny thing is I am now at a point where I can’t read a book without analyzing it—which is not fun. I love to read, and miss getting caught up in stories. I’ve also found that as I’ve learned and grown as a writer, I have as a reader, too. My standards are higher and it’s harder and harder to find quality romance, and by that I mean intense, suspenseful plot, true character development, and steamy sexual tension.
What's next for you as an author?
I am writing the second and third books for my sci-fi romance series Sky’s End and wrapping up a contemporary romance that is currently untitled.
Do you have a favorite or interesting reader meet moment?
I was at a Fan Expo for my sci-fi romance book Sky’s End when a vivacious blond ran up to my booth, begged me for an autograph (like I was going to say no!), took a photo with me and her son and told me, hand on heart, she knew that one day I was going to be a famous author. I was covered in goosebumps and believed her for like three whole seconds.
Do you feel music has inspired your writing?
Music has a profound influence on my writing. Particular songs will spark imaginings of my characters, set the mood, shape who they are and who they become. Each novel I write has a soundtrack at the end, and in many cases, I will have listened to the first five songs over 100 times.
What is your favorite or most fun place to shop online?
Etsy.com. I am addicted to this site. I love supporting indie artists and I also love antiques. It’s the best of both worlds.
One of the best mini-moments in life is finding a brand new book by an author you’ve never heard of before. I hope you take a chance on me. And thanks to Night Owl Reviews for featuring me today!
