Hi K. H.! Thanks for stopping over to share your book "Book of Angels".
What's your book about?
Sera is saved from death by the Night Angels, while her brother Salem is saved by her enemy Fabian Gore. Both become immortal denizens, fighting on opposite sides of the battle. Sera can now face Peter, the Night Angel she loves, as an equal. But she still does not know if he cares for her or if, just like everyone else, he lusts after the key she possesses and the power it promises. Sera must steal the Book of Angels and decipher what it says. If she can do this, she threatens to become more powerful than them all. Throughout the six books Sera travels from the suburbs of Los Angeles, to the Sinai Desert, to a castle in Slovenia, to the Mongolian wilderness, and ultimately, to the Lizard City. Along the way, there are demons and angels, vampires, gangs, corrupt politicians, greedy corporate moguls, creepy rehab centers, evil masks, illuminated manuscripts, mysterious boxes, monasteries and monks, sorcerers and martial artists, and of course, THE KEY, that unlocks the door to the hidden chamber containing the Secrets to the Origins of Life.
What should readers expect from you titles?
NIGHT ANGELS CHRONICLES consists of six volumes. They are a mix of urban fantasy, paranormal romance and mystery. A cross between The Da Vinci Code and Bladerunner, expect an epic journey that has been described as INTENSE and GRIPPING.
What's next for you as an author?
Well, Cave of Secrets, volume 3, will be out soon. I'm deep into writing Land of Talismans, volume 4. And I still have to write Throne of Desire and Door of Destiny, so my work is cut out for me! I am also writing a childhood memoir, INTO THE WORLD, about my childhood traveling adventures.
Do you have a favorite or interesting reader meet moment?
I've been having amazing adventures, traveling the world for the past year and writing in places as diverse as the Sahara Desert of Morocco and the Andes of Bolivia. I spent three months at Lake Arenal in Costa Rica and once day while I was out on my balcony watching the torrential thunder storm, my neighbor came out on her balcony and we started talking. She asked what I did and I explained I was a writer. When I told her I wrote the NIGHT ANGELS CHRONICLES series, she started hyperventilating. When she could finally catch her breath she explained that she had just finished reading Key of Mystery and it was her favorite book ever. She kept saying over and over, I can't believe I'm talking to the author, I can't believe it! It was the most random, funniest thing to be standing on this balcony in this little pueblo in the jungle of Central America, with this young woman who was, like, my biggest fan.
If you could travel to another time, would you choose past or future or would you stick where you are at? And Why?
I suppose in relation to NIGHT ANGELS CHRONICLES, I would love to travel back to the times mentioned in the series. The denizens have an ancient and complex history. I would love to see for real the scenes that I describe in the beginning of Book of Angels, during Sera's turning. To meet the Queen, Ahhotep I, and the Pharaoh Seqenenre Tao, from Egypt, 1530 BC and Mehmet II and Vlad Tepes, from the Ottoman Empire. To see Vlad (Dracula) in his castle, how cool would that be!
What's your day job like?
Besides being a full time writer, I am a boxing and kickboxing trainer. Training in fighting arts has been a lifelong pursuit for me. I teach in boxing gyms and I also teach self-defense classes. I consider it part of my mission in life to empower women and children to be able to defend themselves. I teach Cycle, TRX and Boot Camp as well. And I train people privately. I was once asked to be a body guard of a rapper, but I won't name any names here. And I was asked to fight professionally as a boxer. I never did either of those things. I was a single mother with young children at the time and needed to devote myself to them. Now I'm able to get out all my fighting fantasies in the NIGHT ANGELS CHRONICLES.
What's your best vacation experience?
I am a travel addict. As I mentioned, I've been traveling for the past year. I like to go to a place and live there for a while and experience the culture and get to know the people. I'm not big on traditional vacations, and I have no interest in lying around at a big fancy resort. So, for example, one of my favorite times was three weeks I spent in Istanbul, just wandering the city, getting to know people, finding my favorite cafes to write in, losing myself in the incredible sites, sounds and smells, wandering the city on foot. It was during the war in Gaza and there were protesters and I would join them and do my best to understand their raw emotions. A lot of my writing is inspired by my travels and my desire to break down barriers and bring people together. I also started My World Project, a literacy program connecting children in remote areas around the world. Inspiring young people to share their voices when they would otherwise never have the opportunity is my kind of vacation. Because now, more than ever, the world needs to come together.
