Hi Readers! Today I've got Angela Evans in the interview seat. Her debut book is coming out with Evernight Publishing and is titled "Hiding In Plain Sight".
Angela, please tell us about your book.
To me the story in Hiding In Plain Sight is the story of coming back to yourself, of not letting the world get you down and refusing to be alone when that's what the world is telling you. Kierra, the heroine of the story, is alone and through the journey of the story she learns that part of the reason she's alone is because of her own actions. What she thinks is protecting herself from heartache is really keeping her all alone and lonely. Bryan, our hero, has a protective streak a mile wide. Kierra is the girl he's never forgotten about and when she comes back to town to confront her demons he can't imagine letting her get away again. Bryan plays a big part in Kierra realizing she's stronger than she ever thought she was, and she doesn't have to be alone.
It also has a super creepy villain in Kierra's stepfather, when I read the scenes with him in it I'm honestly surprised at how seriously nasty he is. Clearly I have a dark side!
What should readers expect from you titles?
I love characters who make you feel like you could be best-friends in real life. I love characters who are a little bit damaged, but still find someone who is their perfect match. I love fast-paced, sexy stories that make you not want to put the book down until you finish it, and make you never want to get to the end all at the same time. I also love stories that are full of suspense, so that means lots of bad guys hiding in the shadows.
Reading my books readers should expect to find all of those things and hopefully a few surprises as well.
Which authors do you follow religiously?
I have a list! On my auto-buy list is Roxanne St. Claire, Cindy Gerard, Laura Griffin, Lori Foster, and Catherine Mann. The one thing they all have in common is creating amazing, loveable, flawed characters.
What's next for you as an author?
Next up is the next book in the Hidden Dangers series, one of the characters from Hiding In Plain Sight who I couldn't get out of my mind is the hero's sister. She gets her own story when more danger finds its way to Briarview.
Getting a book to market often takes a village. Who has helped you on the way?
I have an amazingly supportive husband, and kids who have always been here telling me they believe I can do this. Mostly though I have two girlfriends who have believed in me when I didn't believe in myself, one writes YA as Lyncoln Rose and one is someone I worked with years ago. They're always picking me up when I want to quit and telling me to keep going. Couldn't have done it without them.
If you could have dinner with an author, who would it be?
Roxanne St. Claire has been an amazing mentor to me but we've only ever talked through e-mails. I would love to eat dinner with her, or better yet just enjoy a few umbrella drinks and laugh all night!
Do you feel music has inspired your writing?
I am very inspired by music! I have always thought that songwriters are the most talented writers out there because they convey a message and a feeling in a way that seems so effortless but we all know isn't. As a romance writer I love songs about attraction, and feeling drawn to someone so strongly you can't stay away. It's not at all unusual for me to hear a single line in a song and have a whole scene pictured in my head that will one day end up in a book.
What's your day job like?
My day job is as an online community manager, which allows me to work from home. I manage online communities, social media presence, and some marketing. That means I'm the person behind the scenes who makes the people on your favorite websites play by the rules.
Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Introvert--aren't all writers?
Thanks Angela for sitting down with us and sharing your books and life. We wish you many more release days.
Thanks so much for having me! I look forward to getting to know readers and hearing what they think about Hiding In Plain Sight soon!
