Hi NOR readers! Can you believe it's Thursday already? I guess time really does fly when you're having fun. These past two weeks I have read some fantastic stories by some of the most incredible authors. My list is growing of which stories I want to showcase to you, our NOR readers. This week I picked another book I just loved and I think you'll agree with me once you read it. So, let's get this party started. Without further ado, let me tell you about: The Making of a Country Doctor by Patrice Moore.
Poor Julia Chambers is looking for a place to do her next residency rotation that's away from Portland, Oregon. She needs to reassess her life and get back on track again after going through this troubled time when everything has crumbled before her. Accepting her next residency rotation in Jasper, Idaho seems like the perfect fit. It'll be away from Alex, her ex-fiance, and all the insecurities she is still facing since she happened to lose a maternity patient in her last rotation in the emergency room of Portland City Hospital. She needs to just go away for awhile and get a new perspective on things so she can come back to Portland and move on with her life again.
Little does know that temporarily moving to Jasper, Idaho is only going to complicate things more for her, especially when she meets the fellow doctor, Ben Taylor, that she'll be working with. Ms. Moore did a wonderful job telling this story and I easily fell in love with her characters. This is definitely a story worth picking up. It's a full length novel and is the perfect read to take to the beach with you or on your next vacation or for even just stretching out on your couch and relaxing for a little while at home.

Resident Doctor Julia Chambers decides that she needs to get away from Portland, Oregon for awhile. It seems lately that too many bad things are happening to her. She is traumatized over losing a maternity patient during her emergency room rotation in Portland City Hospital. If that isn’t enough for her to deal with, everything really fell apart when her fiancé, Alex, another doctor at the hospital, deserted her right after the devastating maternity incident. She needs to go someplace far away from all the chaos. Julia wants to go to a place where she can clear her head and get her life back on track again, even if it’s only for three months during her next residency rotation. Jumping at the opportunity, she temporarily relocates to Jasper, Idaho and accepts a clinical rotation at Jasper Medical Clinic. Maybe now things can start changing for her.
When she arrives at the clinic, she meets Dr. Ben Taylor. She can’t help but feel that this may have been a big mistake because the clinic is in the middle of nowhere and they barely have enough medical equipment to even get by. She is so used to all the amenities of Oregon that she worries this wasn’t such a smart move after all. To make things even more difficult, Ben was involved in a motorcycle accident and is in a wheelchair while his leg is healing. This temporary disability is only making matters a bit more complicated than what Julia really needs right now. As the days pass though, Ben eventually gets her to open up about her less than positive comments regarding the clinic and Jasper in general and he begins to show Julia that sometimes the best things in life are the simpler things that should be enjoyed. But as her three month rotation nears the end, she is more confused as to what she should do now because she finally started to adjust to the rural area and the beauty it has to offer her. Not to mention that handsome Ben is trying to test the waters with Julia and see if she might be interested in starting a relationship with him.
Could this be something that Julia decides she wants too? Can she see herself settling down in Jasper and leaving all the amenities of the big city behind her? Or does she decide that going back to Oregon is the right thing to do so she can finish off her last rotation in a fully equipped hospital with more options available to her than what Jasper, Idaho can offer?
I absolutely loved this story Ms. Moore wrote. I instantaneously fell in love with Ben and I was hoping that Julia would keep her mind open to everything that Ben was trying to teach her, medically and emotionally. I wanted her to take a chance on life and starting a new relationship with Ben and permanently relocating to Jasper seemed like a good plan for her. The author developed a wonderful storyline that kept me turning the pages for more and she did a marvelous job with her character development. I loved how Ms. Moore told the story and weaved messages of hope, love and renewal throughout the pages. I highly recommend this story and it’s a definite keeper in my library. I’m new to Ms. Moore and her writing, but if this story is any indication of the storyteller she is, I’m her number one fan now! I definitely look forward to reading more of her work in the near future.
