Alien Landings and the Paranormal
by Tamara Hogan
Night Owl Reviews asked: "What made you choose aliens as an explanation for paranormals on earth. It's a cool Twist when so many others don't explain it at all."
In an epic case of ‘write what you know’—or at least ‘write what you find interesting’— I came up with the idea for this series watching Motley Crue, of all things. I watched all these middle- aged women—MY aged women!—lifting their shirts, flashing their boobs at drummer Tommy Lee. I remember thinking, "What the heck? It's like he's half incubus or something."
Hmm. What if he was? What if incubi—mythological sex demons—actually did exist? Where did they come from?
My first instinct? From outer space.
I’m a complete hoor for science—cosmology, theoretical physics, archaeology, computer hacking, astrophysics—and these interests are twined in my subconscious. I can't remember a time when space did not fascinate me: the ungodly distance. The long time horizons. I read everything I can concerning SETI, The Search for Extra-Terrestrial Life, made famous by the book and the movie Contact. My bookshelves are loaded with books by cosmologists and theoretical physicists Carl Sagan, Stephen Hawking, Neil deGrasse Tyson, Michi Kaku, and Brian Cox, wicked smart people who can explain the knowable, and as-yet-unknowable, universe in ways that regular people can understand.
“As-yet-unknowable.” This phrase… fascinates me. I’ve long thought that sheer math supported the possibility that humanity isn’t the only intelligent life in the universe. As the character Ellie Arroway says in the movie Contact, “If it's just us, it seems like an awful waste of space.” In this series, I took that theoretical premise and ran with it, crafting a backstory where a ship of extra-planetary beings—just going about their business, and en route to somewhere else—crashed here thousands of years ago. Their descendants have been sharing the planet with us ever since, with humanity being none the wiser.
What if so-called “First Contact” has already occurred, and humanity just doesn't know about yet?
In these days of burgeoning technology, and using human history as a cautionary tale, how would such creatures keep their existence a secret? And what will happen on the day that their existence is inevitably revealed?
Question for readers: What WOULD happen on that day? How do you think humanity would react to the news that we shared the planet with extra-planetary beings?

THE SECRETS SHE'S UNCOVERING WILL BE HIS TO KEEP... Centuries ago, when their ship crashed to Earth, paranormals of all types settled secretly into our world, quietly going about their business with humans none the wiser. Self–ruling and careful to stay below the radar, all is threatened when Valkyrie archaeologist Lorin Schlessinger and her werewolf geologist partner Gabe Lupinsky inadvertently draw evil attention to Earth and its treasured natural resources. As the threat intensifies, Lorin and Gabe struggle to contain the chaos they've unleashed, and to resist their explosive mutual attraction...
“Hogan’s sharp, funny dialogue and strong but subtle character development elevate both the story and the fierce chemistry between insecure, bespectacled Gabe and lusty, aggressive Lorin. Paranormal fans will enjoy this fresh take on the genre.” — Publishers Weekly
