Sex on the Beach with Kate Allure - Author of Laying Pipe
The most iconic beach scene ever is in From Here to Eternity when Burt Lancaster and Deborah Kerr make-out in the crashing waves of Halona Cove on Oahu, Hawaii. It’s sexy and romantic and makes me want to give it a go on the beach too. It’s particularly on my mind now because it’s nearly summer and time for those annual daytrips to the beach. I can’t wait!
Summer sands are also on my mind because of my latest book from Entangled Publishing, Laying Pipe, which is set on the shores of Lake Michigan.
But back to seaside sex. I’ve never actually tried it for a number of reasons. The biggest is privacy—beyond a little heavy petting, one really needs a secluded seashore. I mean completely isolated and empty if one is going to go mano et womano at the ocean’s edge. But the second problem that comes to mind is the sand itself. It feels wonderful when our toes sink into it. Warm and soothing if it’s dry and squishy cool if it’s wet. But doing the horizontal mambo on sand would be like giving oneself an extreme, full-body, buff puff. It is sand after all, and the most important ingredient in sandpaper. Lastly, there’s always a beach blanket, but have you ever spent anytime whatsoever on one without getting sand on it. So, it’s just not practical—however, romantic it looks in the movies.
Although, beaches also come with water, hopefully deep, dark water, offering privacy and all sorts of possibilities. I explore several of them in Laying Pipe. Here’s a skinny-dipping exclusive for Night Owl Romance fans.
Eager for the chase, Joe grinned in the darkness. With lightning speed, he whipped off his towel, throwing it onto to the sand, and whipped about to face Lexie. Shooting forward, he dove headfirst into the lake, hearing a shriek before water covered him.
Joe popped up to see Lexie giggling and plowing through the water away from him, running at waist depth parallel to the coastline. He surged after her, and she saw him and shrieked again as she increased her stride, using her arms to help push her through the water.
He dove under again, stroking toward her, using every iota of muscle to power him forward. Lexie might have been on the high school swim team, but he’d undergone weeks of intensive underwater training to earn his Underwater Construction Team credentials. No one on his squad could match him for endurance and speed. He stayed under as long as he could, following the noise and feeling the water disturbance she made.
Bursting up again, sucking in lungfuls of air, Joe was just short of reaching her.
“Joe!” she cried, still laughing, “Okay, already.” But she kept rushing away from him.
“Then stop running,” he called, tearing after her.
“Not a chance.”
Using the bottom as a springboard, Joe pushed off and flew through the air like a breaching whale. He came splashing down practically on top of Lexie, his arms sliding around her waist, thrilled to have caught her. Tumbling under the water, he dragged her down with him. She struggled to break free as the water closed over them, but he held on tight, pulling her against his body.
Joe found his footing and stood up, lifting Lexie out of the water in his arms. He felt all powerful, having won this beautiful woman.
She spluttered and wheezed and giggled in between.
“You. Put me down,” she ordered with mock indignation, squirming and pushing on his shoulders. And giggling some more.
“Not a chance, and stop wiggling. It’s like holding on to a wet weasel.”
Carrying her easily, he started back toward the beach. With ease, Joe hefted her by the waist and flipped her around to face him, dragging her against him. Water sloshed around them, slipping between their tightknit bodies, the cool temperature a titillating contrast to the heat that steamed off him. Lexie wrapped her legs around his hips and slid her arms around his neck.
“I caught a water nymph. Now, what should I do with her?” he asked, his timbre husky as the night.
I set Laying Pipe in the house I grew up in on Lake Michigan, and water plays an important role in the story. It brings Joe and Lexie together when her pipes burst, it brings them together romantically, and it’s the catalyst for their foray into BDSM play. A word of warning, this summer if you think about spraying your lover with icy water from a hose, better be prepared for some payback, and rather than getting sprayed yourself, your punishment might come in the form of a spanking. But if you’re like Lexie, that will get you wet too.
I hope you have a wonderful summer full of great novels, and thank you to Night Owl Romance for letting me visit today. Also, if you need a sultry read for those sultry days, check out Laying Pipe.
