My Favorite Writing Space
by Rebecca Hart
As a working parent, it’s quite hard sometimes to really carve out my own writing space at home. Most of the time, I do my writing while sitting on the bed in my room. Not very romantic, nor all that inspiring, for sure. Add in continual interruptions from “regular life”, and *poof* the day is gone, including my precious writing time. This is my daily writing space. I’m sure glad that isn’t what you asked about, since it would make for a boring, and rather short guest post.
My favorite writing space is completely different from what I’ve described above. Thank goodness. :)
Last year, I bit the financial bullet and invested in a seasonal campsite and a thirty-foot camper to place on it. I felt my children needed a vacation place they would remember for years to come. A place like the one I had when I was growing up. What started out as a desire to provide a special place for my children became regular visits to my favorite writing space.
While sparse, “spartan” as my boyfriend, Pete calls it, camp is home on weekends during the summer. What better place to pull out the laptop, absorb the serenity and write. I find it especially useful in writing fantasy stories, because the woods are right there, the breeze is blowing in your ears and you can smell the pine all around you. When I’m there, I can usually manage a solid hour, sometimes more, of pure writing solitude. When I write at home, I usually need to have music playing in the headphones to keep the world at bay and my concentration centered. At camp, all that goes away, and I can enjoy the quiet of the early morning while my fingers work at the keyboard. I tend to be the most productive with my time when away at camp.
Man, now I really wish camp was open year round…

CALL OF THE SEA Synopsis:
Elysandra Winters has always yearned for a life of adventure on the rolling seas and is willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill her dream. When her Privateer father continually refuses to allow his only daughter to sail, Ellie defies him, disguises herself as a boy, and goes in search of a captain who will give her a chance to prove her worth.
Thanks to the cursed Selkie blood coursing through his veins, Daniel O'Rourke needs the sea to survive. After giving up on his humanity and spending three years in seal form, he decides to give his human side another chance. Daniel goes in search of a job and a sense of normalcy, earning himself a position aboard Captain Winter’s ship, The Siren's Call. However, his new captain’s first assignment has nothing at all to do with sailing, and everything to do with his headstrong young daughter.
Years later, when the leader of a band of bloodthirsty pirates murders Captain Winters, Daniel and Elysandra’s lives come crashing back together with the force of a hurricane. Both experts in deception, they must find a way to trust each other in order to quell the raging storm between them or have any hope of hunting down the captain’s killer.
